Gday guys,

Just wondering what tyres/sizes people would recommend for upgrading those on an 85 4runner. The ones on there at the moment are Kumho Road Ventures, measuring 205/50/R16 (I think).

I would like something that will work well for a variety of conditions, but mostly hardpack and sand (we dont get much mud in SA! Or rain for that matter). So guessing a LT all terrrain would be the best.

Which brand is the one to go for. Im thinking cooper, BFG, MT but really not sure. Is their a general favourite?

Wondering about the sizes too, as I would like wider and a bit bigger, but the engine is GUTLESS to say the least (old 2L 2.4 litre diesel). Would fuel efficiency/performance decrease noticably?

Also what are peoples thoughts as far as keeping the ones on their now as a day to day set and a good set for offroad only?

Cheers,

Mark

My old one (same as yours) had 32's, and the performance was still ok for what it was. Could probably go 33's, but I wouldn't think about anything bigger without upgrades to the motor or diff ratio changes....

Tyre make is a matter of personal choice/opinion....

Yeah I was thinking maybe 32's. Just wondering what tyres people thought would do the best job. Or is it a matter of finding the right size and picking any all terrain to do the job?
