View Full Version : 35mm above Standard Suspension

I am looking at a Ridepro suspension kit for my disco 2 that is a 35mm lift above standard. Everyone seems to talk about a 2'' or 50mm lift. I understand that yes there is a 15mm difference but does it make a big difference. The kit is $1650 fitted and includes a steering damper and diff bushes. Should I get a 50mm lift as I want to put 265/75/16 tyres on -32"

lift heights vary from one suspension system to the other, it just comes down what kind of off roading you do if your keen for hardcore action definatly go with the system that qoute more lift other wise 35 mm is probably fine and the improvements in handleing will be worth it anyway

A typical 50mm lift for a Disco 2 is in reality only 40mm, unless the standard steering damper is shagged it won't need replacing as they are a very good damper, also WTF are the diff bushes for.
Most D2 owners swear by Bilsteins, they seem to work really well in Rovers, these will be the expensive part of a lift but springs are readly available off the shelf for the D2 to give a 40mm lift and should only set you back around $1100 to $1200 if you don't use Bilsteins even cheaper.

Dobinsons
OME
Les Richmond
are some good combinations for a D2.

yeah 50mm is never 50mm and $1600 is a bit much, I have king and bilsteins in the rangie and love them, the 2"kings only cost $440
If you can use a jack and spanners do it yourself and save $500

You will scrape the guards with your 32's So you will need to take to rear arch at the very back with the old tin snips, as you will bend the "you know what out of it" Also you will rub on the mud flap holders as well. I had a 75mm lift and still hit these places with 32's . The front arch is not a problem, but you will need to wind your stops out a bit and decrease your turning circle as the the 32's will hit on the drop arms.
Also that is really expensive but you get that when you you buy of the shelf. Your best bet would be to buy each component that suits your needs like a true 50mm extended coil. Match some good quality dampers, get your swivel hubs done by les richmond to correct castor. I think you would come in at the same or better price and have a better set up unit.
If you need any advice just ask.

Cloughys right Grover, the D2 will take 33s with a 2" lift, just:)

IMO dont bother with a 35mm lift you would be wasting time go for 2 inch at least make sure the shocks are long traveling not just extended shafts and there is bugger all you can do with the shock mounts truth be told you dont have to
if your after a cheap but good set up go Dobinson springs with Procomp shocks give shane a call on suspension stuff he is cheap and you can fit up to 34 on D2 im told :thumb:

34s won't fit a D2 without a guard trim, 40mm is an off the shelf lift for Discos, anything over is custom.
You can get a 3" lift with OME from ARB using;
751 front springs and N107 Shocks
763 rear springs and N108 shocks
You will need the Old Man Emu 10mm Trim Packer though, as sometimes with this combination above the vehicle may list to the left as the right spring is designed with the extra weight of the driver in mind and can be 10mm taller.
