View Full Version : Long Range Fuel Tank

Hey all...

Been looking at these long range tanks by 4wd systems they advertuse in the mag (www.4wdsystems.com.au), just wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with these before especially on 100series as this what we have... Looking at comments on quality, fit, etc etc

i personnally havent had any experience with them but a work mate had one put on a rodeo ( petrol) and had heaps of trouble as they used wrong hoses etc, took them awhile to sort it out for him, this is probably more an issue with the people who fitted it than the tank itself,

I have a Long Ranger on my Rodeo, never had a problem with it apart that they sit too low on a Rodeo (like below the chassis!!!) Have to body lift it to raise the tank.
Anyways the Long Ranger tanks have a very good reputation.

Hi Shaun

I have one of these tanks in my 80 series. It has been great. I fitted it myself and it only took about 3 hours. It was a perfect fit with easy to follow instructions.
I've just got back to Perth from Alice. I went via the Great Central road. That is about 2000km of corrugations all up and the tank performed perfectly. No leaks, no rattles. I was able to fill up at Laverton and didn't need to buy any more fuel until I reached Alice, and visa versa on the way home.
The only thing to be aware of is that the fuel sender is mounted quite low, so it reads full until the tank is about two thirds empty. Not really a problem, but worth working out your range in the city before you head bush.

Thanks for the reply mike... Coming from a troopy and having two 90l tanks going to a 90 and a 45 has been a little bit annoying.. so I reckon upgrade the back to the 170l and then you have the 90l in the front and should be laughing, 260l total should be about 2000km's comfortably when not towing...

Just out of curiosity can you upgrade the front tank, not that I probably would because it is too much weight, but just curious...

I don't think anyone makes a bigger main tank for the 80/100's. The sub tank while quoted at 170L is actually closer to 190L. I get about 1600 - 1800km from both tanks, but I've got a 6.5L Chev Diesel which uses a little bit more fuel than the Toyota diesel.

I fitted a Long Ranger sub tank to my FZJ105R about four years ago and have had trouble free service. The sender reads the same as Mike's 80 series but is not a problem once you are aware of how it performs. I understand the sender can be extended but have not bothered to do it. Though the tank looks low, I have never hit it. I have only the standard 50mm lift.

my LN106's hilux is the same with the sender- its more to do with the shape of the tank than the location of the senter.

To go around the tailshaft, so it physically takes it longer to drain the top half than the bottom half- I get 400kms of sitting on F before the needle starts to move, and when it does start to move i know im at half full

my tank is the same as yours ferremit,im pretty sure its a 134L or could even be the 129L long ranger.my sender reads wrong also
