Hey all! I own a 1998 daihatsu rocky, excelent little car, but i have found that when offroad climbing hills etc. that low range first gear isn't low enough to provide enuff grunt to get me up & it is quite dangerous going down the hills as it decends quite fast because of this, I was wondering whether anyone knows of a mob that sells low range reduction gears for the rocky? or knows a way of getting a set to fit? or any other suggestions, Thanks in advance.

Looks like you have a widetrack Rocky.
No to Reduction Gears.
No to lower diff ratios.
No to diff locks.
and a big NO to just about any other off the shelf modification or part.

does that only apply to the widetrack model?

All models you will find hard to get after market parts for
there was a company that did make a diff lock for them but did stop making them

I found when I was shopping for mine, it was often easier & cheaper to by Hilux parts. Mine is an 85 petrol & it has a hilux gearbox in it.

Pretty much.
Detroit did make lockers at one stage, but you have more chance finding a hens tooth in rocking horse poo the size of a needle in a hay stack second hand.
I think, but don't quote me, you can fit earlier model daihatsu scat diffs which came in lower ratios. Apart from that, it's like all daihatsus, pretty much custom work.

Hello,
i am from the belgium forum, and i come not many times on this forum, but i had the answer.
We put in Daihatsu Scat F20 diff's, fitts without any problem, just screw out and screw in.
You could ask always more info on the Belgium forum: Daihatsu 4x4 :: Forum index (http://www.daihatsu4x4.eu/)
Ask it in Englisch, we all try to answer in Englisch also.
Greetings Gonzo

Is yours diesel or petrol?
Nobody makes reduction gears for daihatsu
Even if you got a gearset made up ther is no room in the transfer.
What size tyre are you running.
