Hi. Ive just brought a 94 Jack, petrol Manual.. I Love it! However, not having had a large 4wd before I dont know what to expect fuel wise, so I dont know if there is a problem with the motor or if its just thirsty. I drive very tenderly around town and get about 350 k's to a tank. Does this sound about right?
Thanks for your help guys...
Justin

you have yourself a typical petrol isuzu :D
run it on premium, you will notice a world of difference (had up to 800k's to a full tank)
don't even think about ethanol, it absolutely hates it (had 300k's to a tank more than once...)
don't stress about letting the engine roar, it won't chug anymore juice (mind you, i do pussyfoot it cuz i see no need to drive it fast)

Got a 95 Petrol Auto which gets about 400k's to a tank, and less with ethonol. Will definately try the premium. I'd have thought that a manual would get a few more k's than an auto though. Most of our daily driving is in the outer-outer north eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and don't really mix it with the urban jungle too much, so we have less stopping and starting, and more 80kmh+ driving than 60kmh or less, but do have lots of hills and corners.
I towed a camper trailer around Central Australia in September, and dropped down to about 300k's per tank, and didn't dare turn the air-con on, as I only had 4x20L Jerry Cans of fuel on board.

hey justin, that sounds pretty right, i've a rodeo v6 and i get about the same around town. when i didn't have a caltex fuel card for work i was running BP ulimate and within a week i was an extra 50k's and after a month it was about 80 k's more.
and also don't worry too much about the revs i drive the guts out of mine most of the time and it doesn't much of a noticeable difference.
got to enjoy the power!!
hope this eases your concerns.
thanks, jase

i just did a trip and got 480ks out of the tank on premium and mine is a 3.5 manual v6 fitted with a snorkel.I have 32" muddies and was loaded with our camping gear so was pretty happy with that.Did think the snorkel and premium helped didnt get the same fuel economy last time i did the same trip.

can anyone tell me what sort of economy the diesels get?
im thinking of buying one for my growing family
sorry for the change of fuels!
Dad's '92 3.1turbo diesel has done 9L/100Ks at best & I have heard the later models can do better esp. with big exhaust etc.

if you do highway k's more than city driving, get the catalytic converter restrictors removed (illegal) and you will see an extra 50-100 k's per tank
though, city driving will suffer, losing the same amount, (and your exhaust will be highly toxic, which is the reasoning for it in the first place)

Ive been trying most of the different brands of premium of late in my '99 Jackaroo 3.5l V6. I've found hates shell,bp and united, Loves Calex premium (vortex) fantastic, found has more get up and go and uses so much less per K. Unless i turn the air con on. No matter what i run it on, the aircon switch needs to be renamed to "empty feul tank", does anyone else have that problem? or should i just roll down the window and have another smoke......

Have been using BP Ultimate and getting much better fuel economy than when using regular unleaded. It doesn't like the Woolworths/Safeway stuff. Hates ethanol. Runs like a pig on that stuff.
Premium is definately the G O. Heaps of power, smooth running, and no Isuzu tick.
Thanks for the advice Chicko. Was well worth trying it out.
Can't wait to see how it goes up in the Vic High Country over Easter.

JUSTINROO, I have a 1993 Jackaroo 2litre, 4 speed, rebuilt motor and I have tried everything to get better fuel consumption. I have given up. 20 litres per 100 kms around 95 to 100 kms. I got it down to 15 Kms per 100. if I take it very easy (80kms per hour). In other words goodbye Jackaroo.

Definately worth spending the extra dollars to get the better fuel...except for the tank of shite I got down in Warnambool. Paid top dollar for crap. Neale Bros BP. Won't shop there again! The car ran rough the second I pulled out of their driveway. Tick Tick Tick...was waiting for the BOOM! The next tank sorted it out though. Nice and quiet again.
