hi all
recently my 1996 1.6ltr jlx estate wagon started leaking coolant fluid, it is doing this at seemingly random intervals, the car could stand for 3 days without a leak and then suddenly start or it might start just after ive started it up or switched it off. im thinking (and hoping it is just a loose pipe) any suggestions? btw ive already tightened the pipes but i cant be sure any thoughts? has this happened to anyone before?
cheers jacques

Mabey a loose pipe but I doubt it it...... I would be running the engine and having a look at the water pump... There will be a tell tale hole on it where coolant will leak out if it is stuffed..

Could be a pinhole in the hose on the suction side of the water pump. This may not leak when cold and when engine is running (due to being on the suction side) but when you stop the motor and the hoses are warm/hot the hole may open and some will leak till it cools.

Same thing happened to me once and it had me stumped for a while.

hi all.
i took her up to rainbow yesterday and went fine did about 1 hrs worth of drivingin the soft stuff as the tide was up, (just mucking around with another vit:truck: ) she went fine, worked hard and no over heating or loss of fluid. drove it the 180 odd kilometers bak home, parked in garage, came out about 1/2hr later pulled her out of the garage, started the clean up process inside and she started leaking, climbed under the car and she was leaking but i couldnt see from where, the drops are falling from the sump.
i dont have alot of money so i like to fix it myself, from what ive seen i think it might be the water pump? any idea how much one of these are? and should i go for another vitara one or is there a "pirate" one or something like that available?
cheers jacques
