Hey all another question(s) for everybody, so can it be done? if so where do i get the engine mounts and adapter? any info would be great. I am pondering this to try and save on petrol and rego but i'm not sure if you can get kits for them, does anyone know of one being put in a rangie?. I know that it's not a regular conversion but the commy donk has more power and produces plenty of torque so i don't think power and drivability should be hindered with this motor, any input would be great.

cheers

Commy 6s are renowned for being thirsty pos in Hiluxs with people getting as high as low 20s on road. So if your looking to save fuel I would look elsewhere. As for power and torque after driving a Storm ute for a few months they have stuff all power and bugger all torque. The Storm had to change down gears with an empty trailer at even the sight of a hill it was appalling. I would stick to the rangie 8 and look at gas if fuel is the issue.

i've got a v6 commie at the moment and it's not hungry at all, i spend about 40-50 dollars a week and that doing my everyday driving (i drive a fair bit), in my opinion given the displacement on the engine i'd say it's not too bad on fuel at all,and as for power the engine is 140hp as opposed to the 130 hp of the rover motor in my rangie and the torque produced by the engine is only around 75nm less than it's 5.0lt big brother, whats' wrong with those statistics, all in all it should be ample enough to pull a rangie yeah?

sounds like a lot of work for not much gain. (or loss)

I agree. The Rover V8 IMO is 10 times the motor the Commy will ever be. Better torque and more economical. Why would you spend at least $3000 to go from a V8 to a V6, for a gain of 10 HP? I have a 3.5lt Rover EFI motor in my Triumph Stag. It has flat top pistons, mild cam, some head work and extractors and puts out 192HP and is extremely economical. Compare that with my Navara, which has a VP V6 and auto. Pedestrian performance and 22lt per 100ks and cost me more to do the conversion. Don't waste your money. I believe a Commodore V8 would be a far better proposition for a Rangy.

My wife only spends 40-50 a week on her car too but that doesnt tell you a L/Km ratio. The Storm I had was only marginally better on fuel than the Lexus in my lux and the Lexus gets a lot better in the factory cars than I do. Also it was slower off the mark, rolling start etc and thats in a lighter car.

I dont think its a bad idea, i got 10-12L/100km from my commodore when i had it, thats not to say however that you would get the same when shifting the weight of a rover and driving 4 wheels instead of 2. If i was going to do the same i think a 5L injected motor from a mid to late 90's commodore would be a better choice, then put it on gas, they are a relativly economical engine, powerful and would cost bugger all to run. I have a mate who put a 5L WB carby fed v8 in his 80 series and its heaps cheaper to run than the diesel that was in it and he loves it. He runs his on straight gas so get better economy as the engine can be set up better, than trying to reach a compromise between petrol and gas.

Failing that just find a good Tdi and what that in, small, powerful and economical, sure it wont burn off doof doof cars at the lights but will do a good job and wont be hard on the wallet.
