i own a 99 ifs hilux and recently bought a set of 33 inch muddies. they foul the back of the front guards and the washer bottle. i've heard of the snake racing 4 inch lift kit which will get the guards up out of the way, but is it worth me going live axle??? since this will give me a lot more articulation. it's my every day 4b and need to keep it practical and driveable. which way do i go???
Do a 2" suspension and a 2" body lift remove the front mudflaps and do some hammering and cutting of the inner guard. See someone like Ryano from Fourbys to set up the caster and alignment and itll be fine. I am not a fan of the 4" kits although most who have them are really happy with them. Its IFS so unless you want to comp it dont bother with a sas just fit a front auto locker and it will do everything you want it to.

A body lift is an easy modification, the only thing to remember is to take your time with it. Most of the horror stories you hear are exactly that, stories ;)

thanks heaps for your input guys. a body lift sounds logical and doesn't sound too hard. wouldn't you have to reposition the bullbar though? coz it's mounted to the chassis? would drilling bolt holes 2 inches lower than the original ones lift it 2 inches? i'd have to look at the bar. it looks like a genuine toyota winch bar and i have a low mount winch fitted....

mate i'd worry about the suspension first. that's the most important thing on a 4b!!!! power isn't really important in low range. and you can do that later anyway. but with better suspension you won't need to nail it through a lot of the stuff you drive through. so by doing the suspension up you will in effect have less need for power coz you'll have more wheels on the ground more often and won't be bouncing around everywhere.

It all comes down to cost, what do you want in the end (show pony/offroad use). it is all on you what you want to do.
Im not a fan of body lifts (its just me), ive got the snake racing 4inch kit fitted, expensive; but more than happy with it.
What do you want to do???

Cheers Boof, was told a few "storys" at Mannell motors the other day, re body lift - was gonna chagre me $1800 for a body lift! seeing as though u can buy the ody lift kit and any other adjustments required for <300.... sorta scared me off a bit... will build up to it after i make some brush gaurds and sidesteps/sliders... still only going 2" in susp... i dont think i need heaps of clearance....
T4 Northside are going to install it in the next couple of weeks! am stoked! winch bar and snorkel scheduled for this week comping! gonna have to get my own buildup goin soon!
