View Full Version : Too many k's
Looking at getting a sierra or vitara.
Just wondering how many k's is to many.
Looking at a 1.3 with nearly 250000, and a mates vitara 1.6 with 280000.
Is this too many k's, do the engine's self destruct at any significant number?

hey mate sierra's are pretty tough but like any car i would try get one with the least k's possible will last u long and be in better condition usually...
i guess it depends on your budget i guess and what you intend to do with eg: a build up project ........... ????

All depends on who drove it for how many k's and how it was maintened etc.
Once you hit 200,000ks I tend to find it doesn't really matter. Either way it has done a stack on things will be on their way. Some vehicles tend to have a given time that certain parts will last, for example, an EF falcon will destroy a gearbox between 250,000 and 300,000, it's a given. The suzukis are pretty tough little trucks, the motors seem to go forever.
The thing to remember with higher k cars is that if they have been well maintained, the more k's it has done the more stuff that will have been replaced so more stuff will be near new!

Mate I agree with the others you should get something with as low k's as possible. I have sierra that I have owned for 10yrs and it has 150ks and a vitara that has 134ks. The sierra has never had any problem and I mean nothing. It starts everytime and just gets serviced on time and keeps going. The vitara I have only had for 6 mths and I paid 7grand but its the same deal just really tough. You can pick up a sierra with mid 100 k's for about 4 to 5 grand. I have owned a jeep and a disco in the time I have had the sierra and they were both unreliable and I just didn't trust em, so you have chosen a good brand. Suzukis are amazingly reliable and heaps of fun. Spend a little extra and get one around 150000ks on the clock.

If you get it cheap enough 1.3l donks are cheap, just make sure the rest of the car is ok. check the rest of the drive line out, gbox, diffs, etc!
