Has anyone heard if Jeep will ever bring out a diesel JK Rubicon.
What would the issues be - different diff/transmision/transfer ratios? Anything else?

You have mentioned a few of the problems.
Despite what the Jeep Forums say, I think that it would take a USA release for it to happen here. Now they look like releasing a diesel JK in the US, but with a different engine to the Oz/Euro JK.

The US have only just allowed diesels in all 50 states
So we will get them soon
Initially the ratios on the dana 44 couldn't get it right
So buy a JK diesel renegade add a 3 in lift, bigger tyres, add lockers and disconnects and you will have a rubicon
Seriously don't wee an issue

Do you know what diesel it will be running? Do they have a time frame?

Some countries in Europe do indeed have the JK Wrangler Rubicon in a diesel, but only as an Auto.
They are running the same ratio's as the Rubicon available both here in Aust and the States. In fact in Austria you can only get a diesel wrangler, as the petrol is not listed in their price list.
However it is pricey there you are looking at around $74000 Aust for one there, the Italians are not that much better off at 39,000 Euro,(about $63,000) but at least they can have the manual.
DC have the wierdest variable pricing but in the policy, for instance metallic paint in Aust is $300 option(how anyone can call a choice of anything other than black an option is beyond me)but in the U.K 400 pounds.

So theoretically, would the 2.8 diesel bolt straight into the Aus Rubicon since the rations are the same? What about the auto, is it the same as the European version?

except you still dont have a front D44, lower gearing (4.11s) and auto incab controlled discos. If I had a choice between a deisel Sport or petrol Rubicon, i would still (as much as I like diesel) go the rubi becuase it has a better drivetrain.
