G'day all, needing some more grunt for my 94 sierra 1.3 with 30" muddies. Have heard of chucking on a 1600 carby. Also thinking of changing low range gears in transfer case. Trying to keep things on the cheap side and getting the boys to help me out. Any ideas?

Helping any motor breathe will make it faster to a degree, so first things I would do is get a uni filter, decent carby, clean out the inlet manifold while your at it, extractors, and 2 inch exhaust (doesn't really need to be mandrel bent for such a small motor). But if it is a recent purchase or you haven't already a decent tune up with new plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor, all filters and oil, and a bottle of injector cleaner is the first port of call. If you don't mind paying a little more for 98 octane fuel stick to that and you can increase the timing a little and lean it out a bit for more power (best left to someone who knows what they are doing), your engine will stay cleaner on good fuel also.

Have rebuilt engine a while ago so the compression is up a bit. replaced all plugs and leads, had dizzy remapped and always keep oils fresh. Had to rebuild carby as it played up a bit. Had been told that sierra carbies are crap anyway and to replace with vitara one. Was also thinking about extractors.

gearing will help bring everything back to working properly. By going to a larger size tyre you've thrown the gearing out changing power bands etc.

Gear it right. The result will be better.

What is the best gearing system? Who would I get parts from in Melbourne? I hear Joe closed down 4play, is that true? Does anyone have a vit carby for sale?

It depends what size tyre you want to run. IMO the higher gearing (lower top speed) the better for a zook with it's high revving power band, Just have to find a happy median with top speed revs.

yes it is true Joe closed down as has been mentioned a few times. It really is true. To get gearing talk to the guys at BBM in Sydney and they can ship parts. Liam is on here
