Hi All,
Ive got a 1600 HC Xflow Cortina engine in my Buggy (rally)
and its in need of a tune up. Have done a basic rebuild
but i have no details of timing, valve clearances or any
other details, and im having some issues with backfires etc.
All new plugs and leads etc.
Does anyone have any details i can tune the engine from?

is it the same as the 1600 mk2 escort engine?......I have one that I autoX...backfiring may be air getting between the carby and the manifold, I'll have a looksee through my litrature on the 1600 timing etc...but dont hold your breath for it.....think its somewhere in the piles of books in the shed

dont know bout the 1300 box, but mine has an Anglia 4.11 diff, 4.1l falcon 2 barrel webber,extractors,4cyl capri intake manifold, and is good for about 160-170km (quickest I got it before having to slow down for the gates at the farm), love the little pommy fords!

the 1300 g/box makes the take off a lot quicker but will slow down the top end. have you got a 4 into 1 extractor ? and you need at least a 2.25" exhaust mate plus a k&n air filter will make a good difference. ahh happy memories indeed;)

4 into 1 extractors (think they too were off a 4cyl capri) and straight through 2.5", small air cleaner + base plate (home brand one), with dodgy h/made intake bonnet scoop.......damn I wanna take the old girl for a spin
