Hi All,
Haven't had a 4wd for some years now and wanting to get back into it again.
I am therefore looking around for a suitable 45series ute (otherwise it will be a patrol) and was hoping that there may be some 45 series owners on here that can give some advise on buying and of what problems or areas to keep a look out for when inspecting possible purchases?

Thanks in advance

Graeme.

No real probs, but the model is getting old now. look for rust under the floor mats, around windscreen, and radiator suport panel. And look for disc brake front end and power steer makes life easy
And a diesel !! but thats just me LOL

I just bought a HJ45 on the weekend for $1300. The body, tray and chassis are in great condition, but the motor is rooted. I'll be fixing it up this weekend if all goes to plan. It's an old diesel POS, but hopefully it'll be good once it's up and running.

Look for rust in bottom of back quater panels, at bottom of doors and underneath floor mats check chassis as well. Most will have sagging springs and motors will be well used and motor upgrades are not ucommon. As dx said look for one with power steering and modded front disks Makes driving a 45 so much better hope you find what u r looking for have fun :)

From my own beast and other owners of 45/47 series cruisers have noted. The tail shaft hand brake is pretty sus.Mine works ok on flat level ground.Soon to be got rid of though. The 45 troopies came with disk brakes, so may be a source if you are ever looking.
