I think everyone will agree a Sierra is the go. But personally I would go for a Vitara or Jimny.

Sierra hands down. Tough as nails and great off road, with plenty of cheaps parts available.

go the sierra but make sure you get a wide track with a 1.3lt motor there are way more aftermarket parts around for them than the earlier narrow track 1lt models

Get one with a 1.6 Vit motor, a SPOA and other stuff done already... Way cheaper than doing it yourself...

if you want heaps of comfort with all the creature comf of electrickery get a Vit
if you want gr8 off rd without the comfort then go the Sierra this way you get a bare bone no crap 4wd that you can make as comfy as you like
I personaly chose the Vit for something different

I purchased a 91 JLX vitara (carby motor), swapped that engine for a 1.6L fuel injected motor, fully rebuilt it and strapped a turbo too it. after that i did tyres, suspension and roll cage. I have flogged the living day lights out of it in the rally type events at landcruiser mountain park and all ive broken is the gearbox and ive had that thing a couple of feet in the air of some nice jumps! talk about tough!!
vitara hands down for toughness!

Have to agree with Toecutta and Ogjon, built up sierra's are nice but a built up vit always stands out in the "crowd". Its good to be different:thumb:.

Has anyone ever stuck a vitara body on a sierra? Or would it be easier to just do a solid axle swap on a vit?
