*I bought the factory tow bar and wish I hadn't. I would have gone with the ARB rear bar.
*I had a beautiful custom-made 3 inch exhaust made and fitted fitted , inc dump pipe. I wish I had saved my money. Made no discernible difference to performance (For sale, as new, $400)
*I ordered the factory locker for $500. Deliriously happy with that one.
*I dumped the factory rubber for Cooper ST/C's the day I got it. Very happy with that also.
*I got an ARB canopy. Expensive, but turned out to be a beautiful piece. I love it.
*I would have bought a VR instead of a GLX/R if they were available at the time. (roll bar and Platoon green hard cover for sale. also as new)
*I've waited and waited for the Safari snork to become available. Time will tell if it was worth it..
*20,000 klm of driving later. I should have saved my pennies on the exhaust and bought an after-market Stratos drivers seat instead.

All in all I love my truck and am happy with how it sits at the moment. I'm just waiting on some reports from braver souls than I on after-market suspension kits.

Josh.

I've just ordered about $13k's worth of gear for my VR. Safari's going to get that snorkel out soon so be patient for it. I got all the ARB barwork and canopy, yeah pricey but going to look awesome.

Will get photos up asap.

What size Coopers did you get Josh?

I thought the diff lock was $500?

How much were the Coopers?

How do they Seal the canopy between the backscreen and the front of the canopy and how much was that fitted?

The Safari snork looks a bit odd to me running down to back of headlight and the TJM runs down though the wheel arch and is one better then the other or is it just pef...

The Seats will be the first to go !!!

As I said in Urshtnme's thread (http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/f49/need-ml-triton-advice-accessories-etc-39464/) I too should have bought the VR and spent the difference from the GLX-R on ARB goodies, incl. rear bar instead of factory tow. Upgrading tyres next week (should have done that one day one). Happy with my TJM snorkel, but still interested to see what ppl think of the Safari one... Still researching power-chips and still confused :confused:

Cheers!

Hey Subi, I'm looking at the Steinbauer and from what I've seen & read they are pretty damn good. I'm just trying to find someone in WA to get one from and to install it.

Have you seen the 4WD Monthly Ute of the year DVD? There's a section in there on the Steinbauer. Looks like a top piece of kit!

Yep, seen the DVD, read threads here, there and everywhere, it's all as clear as mud....:D Like you my preference is for the Steinbauer, but I'm waiting on some feedback from someone with one in a Triton - maybe that'll be YOU, mate!! :thumb:

You must have a typo there, josh - if they are 245/65 they would be smaller diameter than the stock 245/70's? Pretty sure they don't look that way in your pics

OldManGrump

G'day OldManGrump,

I have also done similar things to the other guys, in no special order I have done the following to my ML GLX/R dual cab;

* Upgraded Stereo unit to a nice Alpine system that allows me to connect my ipod and run the audio from the DVD into the cab. It also works fine with the bluetooth and I can still answer the phone using the factory switch.

* Blaupunkt DVD installed - yes a bit yuppy but tell you what it keeps the young ones quite and makes traveling in the back a lot more enjoyable :-)

* ARB Winch bar (but no winch), big improvement over the stantard as far as clearance goes (original nudge bar now for sale)

* ARB Rear canopy - a great accessory IMHO as I can now fit all my camping gear (insert to much SHIT!! :-) ) into the rear of the ute and leave room for passengers now. Sports bars and hard tonneau cover now for sale, low km's.

* ARB Rear bar - much better departure angle and , the big one for me, a couple of recovery points in addition to the intergrated towbar. The towbar is also much higher and gives my Hayman Reece bike carrier much more clearance as I carry 3 Mountain bikes when we go riding.

* Upgraded the HT's to Cooper STT's. This has probably made the biggest single impact on off road capability. The Coopers are SO MUCH better than the standard tyres, as you would expect.

* ARB roof rack - great product allows me to carry the tent, tarp, poles and spare spare with ease. Only problem I had was it nearly shook itself off when I drove the old Ghan road. Problem was fixed with some locktite and a screwdriver so no biggie, but watch those corrugrations :-).

* ARB front Bash guard - much stronger than the factory one

* TJM Snorkel

* Stratos seat is on order and awaiting availability - coming soon.

* Installed a fire extingisher in front of front passenger seat - an obvious one I know but folks might be interested in the mount location ?

* GME 3420 UHF Radio with Aerial mounted on the bullbar.

* Factory tub liner

* Electric brakes for towing

* Cruise control (fitted by dealer but not Mitsubishi brand)

* Took the $500 factory diff lock option. Looks like this has now gone to $1,000 if you buy a new Triton now?

The next big thing on my list is suspension. I have just returned from a 4wd Driver training course and am sick of the bangs and bumps from rocks and tree stumps (even got hung up on one of those :-) ) and bent side steps due to low clearance so I am now debating what to do. I am watching ARB and TJM but I don't think they are quite finished with a complete suspension replacement yet. I understand they are working on a 50mm lift and stronger front struts. 50mm or 2 " may not sound a lot but it could make the difference with getting over those rocks and the departure angle. The rear bar has had a few bangs but is holding up well. The other biggie is how will it effect my warranty from Mitsubishi and insurance. If anybody else has had experience with this please let me know.

PM me if you want to know any more details about the stuff I have done.

As far as the truck goes I am very happy with it, my only bitch would be low clearance but keep in mind I have just come from the driver training course and I was following big stuff like Cruisers and Patrols, but at the end of the day I did make it where they went albeit a couple of bruisers.

The only hiccups I have had were minor things like the bluetooth system and the trip computer, both were replaced by Mitsubishi 2 months ago and I have had no problems since.

Good luck with your Triton .

Cheers

Mal.

Yes mate click here I let ARB get to my Red Triton Ute (RUTE) and this is what happened (http://kap61.com/Rute) I need to put some better ones up and show it in some wild wilderness bush scene fully flexed ha ha but havn't done it yet. Take photo's that is!!

Oh and I forgot to mention the driving lights too. Another weakness is the Standard high beams are not the best.

Sure thing Subi_man, I'll take some pic's and post them when I get it. I believe the base has gone through R&D and they are now in the manafacturing stage. I am expecting it in the next 2 weeks.

I'll be checking with them today as , after me weekend driving course I now HAVE to have an air compressor! Love that "have to have" line, with no missus any more it works really well!!!

* ARB front Bash guard - much stronger than the factory one

Cheers

Mal.

Mal,

Do you have any photos of this bash plate?
Does it replace both the front plate and the one under the front diff?

I am keen to replace these. When I had my tyres fitted, the local tyre shop decided to jack the ute up using the diff bash plate, bending it till it hit the 4wd actuator lever.

When I told them that they have probably stuffed the actuator and to jack it up from the correct location on each side of the chassis, the pleb replied that ....."that is where we always jack them up from!".
Luckily no damage was done, other than the need to bend the bash plate back to its original position

This diff bash plate is like tin foil....you can easily bend it with hand pressure.

Not yet mate [photos] but I will take some tomorrow and post them. It is a two piece section and as I said much stronger than the standard one. I bent my factory one on a rock(s), mind you the Mitsi factory ones are better than the plastic crap you get on other utes. Original bash plate now for sale low K's but no longer straight :-). I'm not sure if you could use it to jack up the vehicle, you probably could, but I'd snot any dickhead that tried :-) .

Hi Subi - yep, I had a turbo timer chucked on mine before it left the showroom - is permanently set on 1 min, & mounted in behind the fuse cover, as it saved drilling holes in dash etc. Also had a hour meter fitted - mounted under the bonnet..............

All good. :)

Cheers - P.

PS anyone got any bright ideas on how to fit a 'idle-up button', like the Hilux has, for when its being warmed up, & would also be handy while using the winch...........??

Yes mate, The Bullbar (its the winch bar but I didn't get a winch) and the bash plate are ARB. It just bolted straight up no probs.

Oh and compared to the standard GLX/R Nudge bar, yes there is HEAPS more clearance and a much improved approach angle.

Lookin' very sharp in White, rick.. (but I'm a little biased hehe). What is your impression of that front-bar you've got?

This is becoming quite a gathering place for ML Triton owners :thumb: I wonder when we'll see out first member here with an auto ML? I read up the specs and it only gets a 4-speed auto, not the 5-speed from the Pajero :(

the ute is completley standard other than a few bits that were on it as a show room model ie,full bull bar,chrome sills,steps,roll bar,tray liner,tow bar,climate instead of air con,full leather,elec driver seat. the only thing i have done so far is the spots. its the gls model and i havent seen another one on the road yet,got a good deal on it at49500 as is.
