Just asking if any body has plans or drawings to make a spear. (for water)
I know you can buy them for around $300 to $400,, but they dont seem to be that complex and might be a good project..
Thanks...

A simple shaft with a thick rubber band at the user end is sufficent for close up work. Stretch the rubber band with one hand and grasp the middle of the spear with the same hand and you have a one hand spear. Be careful not to hold your catches on your person, as this is what Rodney Fox did when he was mauled by a great white off Aldinga in SA many years ago.

One of my mates made one a couple if years ago. I remember him saying the spear part wasn’t that hard to make, the hardest part was sitting down and manually cutting out hundreds of paper washers which filters the sand/crap put of the water.

I have used a length of pvc with a few slots cut with a hack saw, in the end. dig a hole to water level then puddle the spear up and down to get it in deeper. If you wanted one strong enough to hammer in then make one out of gal water pipe with slots in the end cut with a hack saw. if the sand is too fine then you could use a fine mesh internally or around the foot valve of the pump.

I think you can buy the "filter" part of the sand spear seperatly,
then you would just have to make the "Spear".
