Hey there, I am looking at giving my runner a 2 inch body lift and would like to know a couple of things. 1. Is lifting the body using body blocks legal in terms of insurance etc. I have heard mixed reports and the companies selling them dont really give an answer. 2. Any recommended places to get them. I am considering Snake racing.

Regards,
Jeffroe

Body lifts are legal. you have to get it approved.
Once approved insurance should be no problems

Yep, engo cert the mod (any mods)

I got my body lift kit from maquarie 4x4. Blocks, bolts/washers, steering extension. DO NOT GET THE STEERING EXTENSION FROM THEM THOUGH - I RECENTLY FOUND OUT IT WAS THE EQUAL TO A BACKYARD JOB AND IS NOT ONLY ILLEGAL, BUT VERY DANGEROUS - I will post more on this when I take pics. get the extension from BBM or Snake. Other than that, I was very happy with their service and the blocks and bolts and washers (Which they said weren't included, but went out of their way to get them anyway, much to my surprise)

Steering extension isn't really needed. There is enough in the splines to adjust it enough, even for a 3" bodylift. (Might need it for approval in some states but I guess??)

I usaly make my own kits up......get some nylon or hdpe rod froma plastic supply shop, cut it to size, drill a hole in the middle, then your ready to go for about $70.
Bolts are easy enough to get yourself, and cheaper then the kits....sizes for a 2nd gen 4unner for a 2" bodylift are.

All 3/8" dia.
4 x 6.5” Bolts
4 x 5.5”Bolts
2 x 5” Bolts

Hope that helps.

Hey Twisty,

You say all bolts are 3/8 diameter, do you buy nuts and use these or do they screw into the body/chasis? If they screwed in somewhere I would have thought they need to be metric.

I asume you need the nuts?

I also should ask what diameter body blocks you used?

Thanks mate

Mate use 2" dia body blocks, make sure the bolts are high tensile and use nyloc nuts. Bash the large washers off the old bolts with an old socket and re use them on the new bolts. Drill the nylon blocks with a 10mm drill, that way the bolts will need to be gently tapped trough the blocks ensuring a snug fit. I used 10mm cap screws on mine. Be sure to leave the body spacers that are already on the truck in place, just place your spacers on top of them.

Also knock up some 2" radiator drop brackets to take the strain off your hoses.

Cheers

Hey Twisty, I see your runner has great height even though you still have IFS. HOw did you get such great height?

I usally try to use 70mm diameter blocks for the middle 6.....then 50mm dia. for the front two and rear two. but 50mm dia. all round is fine too.

Mine has 2" bodylift, then BJ spacers in the front with wound up torsion bars (bout 3.5" lift) then a set of std. height rear 80 series coils in the rear which gave a tad over 4" lift.

Just to support the body a little more where there is more weight.

Did the same on my current hilux.

I've never seen it, but have heard stories of from people telling stories of people whose 50mm dia blocks crushed through the cab floor.

when i inquired about a body lift i was told that the bull bar would need new brackets? the side steps dont get raised with the lift either do they?

yes this is true about the bull bar and side steps, and also for your towbar! its because these things are attached to your chassis not your body.

you don't need to get them raised, it's just if you want them to look normal that you get them done. and if you have steel bar most places should just modify your current ones.

i've seen many many patrols with a small body lift and standard bars.

Also, does any one know any one who'll do me a leagal body lift in geelong and not charge me heaps! i keep seeing you guy saying prices around $500. i have been quoted over $1000 and that is only for the blocks and a streering wheel extintion fitted. not any of my bars of brake lines!!

i will travel to weeribee or the western suburbs of melb too..
