Hi guys,i've got a 95 80 series lc petrol 4.5 auto with 180k on the clock my q's are as follows
1.The D light on the dashboard has blown, how easy is it to get to the back of the dash and change it ?if so how can it be done ?

2.Under hard acceleration there's a whistle/warble noise, does'nt happen when standing still and reving the engine or just driving normally, any idea what it is ?

3.I've noticed that the front nearside tyre wears on the outside and after speaking to a mechanic he said it was due to the fact that theres no adjustment on the camber/toe in or some such and its a fault with the 80's series is this true ? i've noticed that this wear shows on the other tyres as well due to the fact i'm guessing that the've been rotated around ? any idea what might cause this ?

thx for taking the time to read this and reply

1. Shouldn't be a huge job. If you are mehanically minded you will have no issue.

2. I had a older car that used to make same noise, was told it was coming from the breather in the transaxle.

3. Not sure on adjustment, but have told by many Landcruiser drivers that one downside with the constant 4WD is that it causes cause to wear more then a part time system.

Hope this help's. Dave

I had the same thing with mine. The outside of the fronts were wearing, and I was told the same as you.

I don't know about getting to the lights in the dash. I have an Ellery's manual that explains how to take the dash out, but I'm not sure about the lights.

As for the acceleration, I have a 1hz. No such thing as hard acceleration :)

1. The dash cluster needs to be removed, you can't access from the rear. You should consider replacing the other main bulbs at the same time (P, R, etc).

2. Whistle is caused by the exhaust. Unless it's really annoying you don't worry about it.

3. Try increasing your tyre pressure slightly and take corners slower :) You can get a professional alignment where they use eccentric bearings or kingpins to adjust caster and camber if the alignment is too far out of spec.

Yes get yourself one of those gregory's manuals are invaluable with everything specially the dash removal side of things iv had mine out heaps when i did the conversion from non tacho dash to full instrament dash. It is easy but bit fiddly.

PAnick,

It was really strange reading your post. I had to check that I didnt write it.

My "D" is also blown.

The "whistling" -does it happen at 4000rpm? If so, it's prolly the fan or a/c belt.

Which wheel is the near side.My left hand front is wearing. Due to a lack of adjustment options, .You can get this fixed at a truck alignment place. They bend the housing.Cost around $600 last time I got it done:D .

Hi PAnick,
to your third question there is a camber adjuster that can be fitted that fixes the wheel alignment problem. I fitted one to my HJ60 a few years ago with exellent results.

I have the same car as you.
I thought about fixing my blown D light but then i thought it would annoy me at night.
The whistle is the exhaust and mine dissapered when i fitted the extractors.
and the wearing tyres arent as noticable when you run mud terrains

Hi thx for the replies the whistling/warbling starts about 2k rpm, nearside is the side closest to the kerb whilst parked in the normal direction of travel, offside furthest away from the kerb.
