hi does anyone know how hard it is to fit a swift motor, will it mate up to a 4speed box or do i have to get a 5 speed? where can i get the bellhousing and all needed parts to do this conversion? can anyone help? or would it be better to just put a 1.6 vitara motor or a 1.3 sierra motor to replace the 1l?

I would be looking for a five speed just for the extra gear anyway so look for a complete package. My engine is a Swift GTi which is the same block as the swift/sierra 1.3 but with different internals and twin cam head. What is your budget? I would search for a 5 speed and then for a Gti motor, they are cheaper than you would think, get the series 2/3 GTi if you would like some easy mods though as they have all the chips to suit the ecu that the series 1 doesn't.

Try the for sale section in here, and there are some really cluey guys that know all about the different motors also. redlinegti.com :: Index (http://www.redlinegti.com/forum/index.php?sid=5a23d2a33409833cd332e0541b1cc805)

to tell you the truth it can be cheaper to by a zook with a 1.6l enginnered or 1.3l standard. sure you might get a 1.6l front cut for $1600 then there is freight, adaptors, 1.3L gboz, 1.3L sump, 1.3l pickup, speed sensor & enginnering plus a heap of other hidden costs & you will still have a zook with 1L diffs. The 1.6L will cost you up around $3500 all up if you do most of the work yourself. But i think this is the better engine around for a sierra, including my old super quik 4age zook. christover1 off outers put a 1.3L in his 1L and said to me that it cost him more than it would for him to buy a 1.3l sierra but his is a long wheel base and thus worth the extra effort. the swift motor is the easyest & cheapest, lee has a gti donk in his. you can get away without engineering and it bolts up to a 1.3L gbox. I am probably helping a mate do one in the near future!

I did it about two years ago into a 1ltr 4sp table top. All up cost about $4 grand, about $2000 for motor, rearbox, wiring loom and computer, and other bits and pieces (change exhaust etc), and another $2000 in labour and other little parts.

Would I do it again. No. too much mucking around.

Did it go like the clappers. Yep

Was I pleased to get rid of it. Yep. Long story but get someone who you trust to do the conversion.

It's horses for courses. I used mine for work so it had to be reliable. Also it was going to cost about $2000 to fix the stuff up's in the conversion so commonsense said get rid of it. I got a later 1.3 five speed table top which was a pearler. Rust got it in the end.
