Hey guys, just after a little bit of info....

I have found a 1980 V8 rangie 2 door..... it looks pretty straight but there are a couple of things wrong with it...

Leaking power steering pump...... is it a simple fix... or a replacement, are they expensive$$$????

The difflock is not deactivating.... are they electricaly operated or mechanical..... What could it be ???? Would the box have to come out??

If so, how hard r the boxs to get out on the rangies???

And it needs a new fuel tank, can you get these easy enough, and r they expensive?

And overall, what are the 1980's models like????

Power steer could be a simple $3 seal or it could be a full rebuild you'll never know till it's out.

Petrol tank's are easy to come by.

Difflock is most likely mechanical. what do you mean it's not disengaging? a transfer case change is easy too

it's like every other rangie, awesome but you'll love it or hate it!

Okay, I assume you're keen on the Rangie on e-bay (yes, I've been watching that one too ;) )

The diff lock works on a vaccum unit and the diaphram can sometimes crap themselves. The unit can be bought second-hand for a small cost but new ones are not too expensive anyway (depends where you scourse the parts).

Power steering leak can be cured with good 'ol Lucas power steering stop leak for the short term, about $17 from Super Cheap. Good stuff and it will cure most leaks or at least slow it down to a trickle. Long term you'll need to have the seals replaced which can be bought in a kit for about $40

Fuel tanks are had easily at the wreckers, don't pay more than $150 for a good second hand unit. New tank is about $400 but a LR tank is another $50-100 but they're a PIA as they hang down too low.

All in all, if you're handy it would be a good buy and all up hypothetically would cost inc rego about $1500 if you get it for that price (you know what I'm saying).

mikey0211,

I had replaced my xfer case in my 88 Rangie and they are a simple job all in all. Access for the top of the xfer case can be via the inside if its just for checks and adjustments just by taking some of the interior centre out is simple.

As for the other issues Trav and the other have it under control.
