rocky transmission noise

I have a 94 rocky (F78) which has a transmission noise. It varies in pitch with road speed and is not there on trailing throttle. At high speeds it is quite high pitched. It is there on H or L range but not in (transfer) neutral. The transfer case has been dismantled and checked, and all bearings replaced. There is no damage to any gears. The gearbox has also been checked thoroughly (dismantled). The noise is still there. Any ideas???? Greg

Sounds to me like it could be the rear diff, although if it is just a gentle whining noise then it is often more of an annoyance than anything.
