I have a 110 single cab ute with the Tdi engine. 1 problem I have is that my fender had been worked really hard before I got it. This plus neglect has left me with "backlash" in the drivetrain. While it has no sign of breaking at the moment, it obviously isnt right and will reqiure fixing. The best indications from my mechanic is that its play in the rear diff or center diff. When test driving, stick in a gear (2nd or 3rd) and push the throttle on and off and feel for any slackness. If you hear a clunking noise, this is usually the upper ball joint which is an easy fixcheers Justin

I had clunky take up in the drive train when the clutch was released but that was fixed by replacing the rear axle shafts and the front and rear tail shafts.
That took almost all the slop out and now its nice and tight when you let the clutch out.Generally no need to replace the front axle shafts as they do not experience the same wear as the rears.
