Hey guys, well after seeing the Ute Of The Year DVD, I'm seriously looking at the new Triton. It's just an awesome looking ute but I'd love to see what you've got and how you've modified it.

What's it like on fuel, what's it like off road and as a tourer etc.

So many questions!!

Having a 100 Series Cruiser has been awesome and I love a big car but I've been considering a ute for some time and I love the Turbo Diesel Triton. What are the pros and cons for those that have had larger 4WD's and gone to the Triton?

Look forward to your opinions.

Welcome mate. The Triton is a very good ute but like any vehicle it
has a few things that could be better.
We have now done just over 15000 km and nearly 4000 very recently
on holidays which soon show up any issues especially when approx
1800 are on out back gravel roads.
The 2 main areas we found wanting BIG time are the shocks and front
seats. Young bloke loves the rear seat.
Fuel economy can vary alot, I have had down to 8.6/100 but general
running 9.2 to 9.8. but haven't done the figures for the trip as yet.
The rest of the car was great for things like structural rigidity,
handling (bar the shocks) dust proofing overall user friendliness.
Diff lock is a huge bonus when things get a bit serious as is the good
overall suspension flex.
The other bonus is you can put decent size wheels straight onto them.

Hope this helps bms

Hell yess it does mate, cheers for that. Whats the issue with the front seats?

I heard the shockers were pretty average so I figure, get the Triton and right away upgrade the suspension and get some bigger rubbers as well.

Front seats lack support right in the small of the back where the two
different fabrics join. It actually sinks in a bit at this point exactly the
opposite of what it should do. Will either get them reworked with pump
up lumbar support or by some leather Monza seats from Repco or similar.

Have been talking to Koni re the shocks and they are pushing the factory
for replacement units for the ML so hopefully not to far away.

I love mine, but have to echo BMS's comments - certainly the front seats are poor (the base is too flat and they are overall lacking support), stock tyres and shocks are undersized for anything off the bitumen.

I too have done much research into the new Tritons and think they are the best allround package in the dual cab market. I dont pick mine up until
the 30/08/2007 so when I do I will be sure to give my thoughts. Listening to the Triton owners on this forum they sound pretty happy with it, some sound hepfull advice so thankyou to the Triton people.

Yes as per the other comments so far. We are really enjoying ours and we get a lot of positive comments. We have a canopy and roof rack on our diesel , and I am guessing the roof rack and towing a 6X4 trailer with canopy occasionaly knocks the economy about a bit, we are averaging 11.1 ltr/100k at the moment, the worst so far has 11.4 towing a twelve foot tinny at 110 for 7 hours, better than my old rodeos 19 per 100.
Bull bars are a little bit expensive though (1872.00 ARB Deluxe fitted ) as they have to cut the existing bumper in half, and i think they may have to move a couple of components.
Read through the other ML guys threads in the mitsi tech section and the only other real issue is the bluetooth.
Go for it !

I commute ~180kms/day in mine and I haven't had a problem with comfort but then I'm only a young bloke and probably don't know any better :p

As the guys have mentioned in other threads though, seat comfort is an individual thing and you should take a spin in one to make your mind up and this still shouldn't stop you as the problem is an easy fix.

Not sure if any of you are surfers but one of the neat tricks that I've found useful is being able to slot two mini-mals through the back window for shorter trips. Now I just need to work on some water proof seat covers so I can leave my steamer on between breaks!

Mine is fantastic! As others have said seats aren't too good in the front. I spent all weekend driving around looking at houses and I had no problems, but trips over a couple of hours and I find my lower back suffers.
Other than that I am extremely happy with mine, upgrades are coming in time and it will only make it better!!!

Have you seen the Black Duck (http://www.black-duck.com.au/) or Michelles Sacs (http://www.michellessacs.com.au/) seatcovers? :D If you're not looking for custom-designed ones, they could be what you're after :thumb:

EDIT: tritor has some Michelle's seatcovers - see this post (http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/f27/tritors-07-ml-triton-%3Dnow-33s-%3D-34599/index2.html#post503748)

Hope that helps

Hmm sounds like they havent changed the seats at all, I have an 02 triton, no lumber support in that either, gets a bit uncomfy on long trips.

I will have to agree with the others, the triton is an overall great package. But the front seats are not the best, but thats really about it! i am loving mine!

Hi
I have had my 2007 GLX-R ML for 3 months and just put 12000+ on around the Territory (Kakadu/Litchfield) and back to NSW, changed the Shockies for OME from ARB originals got 2 hot on the dirt. I averaged about 13.5L/100Kms pulling a trailer, (but that is with a Territory lead foot). I have the Mitsi canopy, Tow bar, ARB winch bar, TJM Snorkel and IPF spots. Looking at a Basket for the top and possibly a set of TJM (XGS) Bellows on the rear.
I have a noise at about 2000RPM but are waiting on Mitsi to get back to me on it, didn't have a problem with the seats. Had a problem with the rear springs but the new ones fitted under warrenty are ok now.
Yes they do cut the original bumper and the fog lights go, but I just sold my lights and nudge bar on ebay, ARB want 300+ for a set of fogs for the deluxe bar????.
