there are a few thread on here that are available through the search function. But generally chinese tents are cheaper, but not necessarily crappy. The Australian made tents are generally way over priced in my opinion.
Have a search, i won't clog bandwidth by adding links.

I had one of the Howling Moon rooftop tents on a custom made rack on the back of my Landy 130 a few years ago, bloody brilliant. Made in South Africa and excellent quality, until some A#$EHOLE set fire to the back of my truck, needless to say, much to my regret, I do not have it anymore, but managed to save the explorer fridge.:waycool:

One of the originals and in my (biased) opinion the best are the Shippshape cartoppers. I use one and its probably 15 years old and still going strong. If you are in Sydney you can hire one to see if they suit your needs before buying.

Another for shippshape......way bigger than ARB and better quality they are just bigger on the roof if you've got a teeeny truck.... They also come with an awning included thats way bigger than an ARB and when you add an awning onto ARB's price cheaper too i think..... He has a new moderl coming don't know if its released to the public yet but its made out of the same material as the oztent and will be a lot cheaper to buy

cheers utemad

Look at Grays Online (on-line auction site) - bought mine there and I'm pretty happy with it. There's a few listings for them at the moment. Find the obscure ones (bundled in with unrelated stuff) - less likely to get as much attention and be bid on so aggressively.

I've hada Dingo-Doza for over 10 years now. It doesn't get used lots now, but back in the single man/no kid days it gotta flogging. Very simple in design and I've never had an issue.

Got one off Ebay, about $800 landed in Sydney, it's pretty good overall, army green colour (not camo). Had it since November last year. The mattress is a bit thin for my liking but I'm getting soft in my old age. The zip on cover is pretty ordinary but I'm getting one made to match the torneau cover on my ute, so I'm not fussed about that part. The tent itself? Brilliant, sown well, waterproof, plenty of zip this up, zip that down options for airflow, some internal storage pockets, big enough to change clothes inside it.

Overall, I got what I wanted at a price I could afford to pay at the time.
