Hey all, Just joined the forum, and just bought a 1995 Vitara - and love it !

I was wondering what is the idea tyre pressure to run for road use?

Thanks!

soft or hardtop?.2door or 5 door wagon?. generally 32 to 34 psi onroad for them suzies.if it's a vitara wagon with all terreins put them on 34 psi. and on the beach or soft sand you don't have to go any lower than 25psi as they are allmost impossible to bog! great little machines the zooks!

The 4psi rule? What do you mean? OK ill have a look around now. thanks :)

Its a soft top. 3 door.. Yeah i love it, took it up mt stanley last weekend, I caznt believe how well it climbed up the hill...

The door placard says I should run 23 PSI front and back, sounds a bit low thats all..

I have a 3 door soft top also. I run about 26 on the front and 24 on the rear as the back susp is a bit stiff (measured once tyres are "warmed up"). If you have decent (soft) suspension you could probably get away with going as high as 28-30. It all depends on how much you enjoy being shaken around on dodgy roads.

The only problem with lower pressures is faster wear on the outside edges of the front tyres is accelerated. The 3 doors have very little weight so higher pressures have little advantage unless you are turning into corners too fast, which isn't recommended anyway.

On sand, or bumpy dirt roads, drop them down to about 16-18psi and you should be sweet in most circumstances. With standard tyres you won't see much bagging, but the slight surface area increase will make plenty of difference.
