Overdrive gearbox in 1983 3.5 range rover

hey all
i am looking at buying a 1983 range rover, 4 spd manual with an overdrive gearbox? can anyone tell me how this works? the owner claims that it gives you 16 extra gear ratios? and that it gives you a very very low gear? (forgot to mention that mark4130) someone please explain

Fairy made a overdrive which fitted in the pto plate at the back of the transfercase.............hard to find and usually worn out by now....no longer made.

yeah i think it raises the final gear by 26%.I dont think your supposed to use them in low range, mine has a badge on the dash advising use only in high 3rd and 4th.
They have a small oil resevoir which causes overheating.
Not real popular i think.
I had one in mine and the thing shit itself.Never got around to fixing it.Hard to get parts.
