View Full Version : Engine Is In

Smithy's Suzi

This is my suzi that i will be doing up. there is a fiar amount of rust in it due to a lot of beach work done by previous owners. But i am confident that i can restore it.

The chassis is cracked in half but i have found a brand new one to use. The whole underbody is going to be re blastered, re rubbered and re painted .

The car is stock but equiped with coils.

Future Mods :

3" suspension lift
31' tyres (yet to be dicided what type)
body lift
bull bar and role bar
winch
1.6L vitara engine
sound system
piant job

GRPABT1
07-08-2007, 01:17 PM
You can get a few different types, jeep style ones, flexible ones, and I have seen extended stock style ones also. Like previously mentioned you have big balls taking on that project, I would run screaming from that much rust, hope you got it cheap.

Chin up son , persist with it , weld it , grind it , you built it , not many people have done that , once done rust proof it really well and you won't have a problem , Cheers Paul.

will 31's fit with 2 inch lift on a suzi??

rustyzook
09-08-2007, 10:27 PM
yeah they will, altho they will foul the gards at full flex a 2" body lift will help aswell ask GRIMBO he knows alot about zooks he could tell you! same with MART he is also a zook workshop manual on legs lol he knows lots about zooks, but as far as i kno 31's should fit fine with a 2" bodylift so it should with a 2" leaf beef just my foul!

Trogdor
10-08-2007, 05:51 PM
2 inch springs and 2 inch body lift should do it, i know that is the perfect combo on the leafies, on the coily you might have to do a little more guard massageing to help fit them just because 2 inch lift is a fair bit taller on the leafy for some reason.

Nice effort, you may want to go over it again when you have had some practice or let a mate have a go if you intend to get a road worthy on that.

you may struggle to get 31s on with just a 2" lift. Coilys don't take to lifts anywhere near as well as leaf ones do.

thats one clean lookin chassis.

what's next?

when's the rear locker and 1L transfer goin in?

you might consider putting an extra plate on top of your strut tower while you got the body off as coily's are known to push the strut through the top.

top job mate, keep it up!

Smithy's Suzi
15-10-2007, 09:04 PM
yeoh tru can you give me some more detail on how to do this , because im not sure hot to. cheers

zoozookey
16-10-2007, 06:06 PM
see the ring of weld around the top of the strut tower,
this has a tendency to crack right the way around pushing the shock through the top.

mine did it to the previous owner and was patched up.
a plate welded on top will do the trick, just for added strength though.
weld the plate around the outside to the outermost edge of the tower.

while your at it you could extend the tower by adding some pipe and a cap to attatch a longer shock too, however you may run into some problems with the spring mounting on another shock, OR you could do what i'm about to and cut the tower down in size so you get more DROOP.
that's the cheap alternative.

Smithy's Suzi
16-10-2007, 08:16 PM
thanx mate i might think about doin that ay sound like a good idea while the body is off and the strut tower is easy accessable.

im not a wealth of 4by knowledge but a question...

dunno if its doable but on a few leaf sprung sierra's people have "in-boarded" the rear shocks for better flex, i think Just Cruizin off here has inboarded ranchos on his and bends up pretty well - ever thought of doing this on urs while the body is off? would it benefit a coil sprung sierra, id be thinking it would perform good! would be a pretty simple job id think.... ?????

Just Cruizin

I'm a cheap sorta guy so I just used a length of 50x25x3 box section bolted to the cross member in the holes that were already there and a couple of long bolts for the shockie mounts. the bolts are at 100mm centres. total cost under $15.

Just Cruizin
13-11-2007, 12:45 AM
just a note though weld the bolts to the RHS because they are a buggar to get to other wise.

Putting your springs and shocks more towards the centre of the axle will give the wheel more leverage on them spring/shock. And therefore make it more flexy/soft. What that pic above looks like is the top of the shock was mounted inward to fit a longer travel shock without bottoming it out. Take a look at the rear of project scat attack to see how far inboard the springs are and you'll see what I mean.

rustyzook
19-11-2007, 03:08 PM
i recon the rear on that scat the coils were to far in the center, helping captin wheel lift flip! but still flex's orgasmicly!
