Hey All,
My Cousin has an MK GLX-R Diesel Triton and its been making this stange clunking sound when turning left and right over uneven road/offroad conditions.
He has OME rear leaves & shocks and the torsion bars have been wound up a bit at the front.
When riding in the rear passenger seats you can feel the clunking under your feet slightly which make me think its the torsion bars. It also does it when the suspension is fully articulated.
What holds the torsion bars in at the rear? could the splines have become damaged allowing the bar to spin rather than twist which would cause this clicking/clunking sound?
Grateful for any input :)

Could be CV joints in the front.

I thought of that, but the car has only done 15 000km so that seems a little early for CVs to be shot. That and the fact that the noise seems to come from the rear of the car.
Thanks

We had a clunking noise in our triton. It came from the rear. In between the 2 longest leaves there is a small spacer made out of rubber. (well i think it was rubber) You could hear it if you grabbed the side of the tray and gave it a good shove (it was a deep klunking noise). Anyway, this piece had come out.
I had to ply apart the springs and put a new piece in there. This was on a 99 model with about 220k on it.
I would be real supprised if it was the torsion bars, the splines would have to be completely stripped for that i would have thought.
The torsion bars in the triton are really simple to take out. Undo the bolt at the rear of the T-bar (it takes some force) and keep unwinding until it comes out. The T-bar will pull straight out. It is really simple.
Hope that helps some.
Greg.
Check the uni joints make sure there is not to much play in them, I would be really, really surprised if the CV joint where gone.

Just had the lower control arm mounts tightened on mine. Much better.
I had a real clunk too. The suspension guy said "I bet you a six pack the bolt ob the LHS torsion bar is loose."
He was right. Took 1/2 a turn on the bolt where the torsion bar mounts to the lower control arm.
For some reason all the tritons he gets have a loose LHS torsion bar.

On my old Triton 2000 mdl the front lower control arm inner bolts also use to come loose and the noise could be heard right through the car, I loosened the nuts and put locktite on the threads and never had the problem again.

Well, just put the Triton on a hoist to have a look and it turns out its one of the OME leaf packs are not alligned properly so one of the leaves is able to slide around and cause a 'clunk' sound.
Looks as though its a manufacturing fault as the holes are not drilled in the center on one of the leaf packs (other side is fine).
So I think it will need a new pair of leaf packs as I guess its not wise to just replace one side at a time??
Thanks for the input everyone :)

Hey I'm thank full its not just my MK, Found out its the leaf spring lugs wearing away and they need replacing. They are missing and the movment makes a hell of a noise as you turn.
I hope this will fix it as its driving me crazy feels like the rear end is about to break something.
Cheers Dion

Hi
As any one else had a Noise from the engine on the ML Triton Diesel at about 1800 to 2200 revs under load, have been told that there is supposed to be a mod chip which cures it, it sound as if it is pinking, (NO NOT PETROL!) have had computer reset a little better but still can hear it. Does not appear to cause any other problems, vehicle goes well, cruising at 130Kms with trailer (in the NT). Also I have felt the noise on the passenger side will look into it. (Or was that the Handbrake)

Should I consider any thing else that you moght have done.
I have only had mine 3 mths.
