A mate of mine has just both a 93 4 door Vitara completely stock with H/T tires that are about worn out. Since he has to get new A/T rubber any way he was looking at putting larger tires onto the standard rims for a little extra hight. What are the largest tires that can be put on a stock Vit with out any sort of lift at all and have no rubbing. Any advice would be appreciated.

In theory the 235 are too big for the standard (5.5") rims. Biggest for those rims is 225.

Thanks for all of your help. So from that the safest option would be 225/75R15 on stock rims without a lift?

steel rims from speedy are like $65 each, spend a little for some grip :D

Is 10mm in width going to present a problem with performance, I think not. With insurance should the worst ever happen and you get involved in something then maybe, they will look at trying to get out of it any way the can. That said if your going taller than std and what's on the placard ayway then your already outside the parameters(?), so just do it.
I have a 06 GV and stock rubber is 225/70/16 but I will be going (got one just gotta get the rest) 235/70/16 when the h/t dies.

That 10mm could mean not being stuck or worse.

The difference between a 225/70/16 and a 235/70/16 is 10mm in width and about 15mm in diameter, so they will be better and thats the same reason I am putting them on mine, clearance. For a little more clearance without the width 225/75/16 are bigger than 235/70/16 by 8mm (I can't get them in the tyre I want)

About 15mm diameter is about 7mm lift and 23mm diameter is about11mm lift, is a small but fair addition to clearance without modifying suspension or guards to put BIG tyres in so run with that, it will be a whole lot better than stock rubber

Checkout www.federalytres.com.au (http://www.federalytres.com.au) the muddies that pat callinan reviewed on his landy are gonna be out in 205/80 or 235/75 either will fit so Im told and the 205/80 size are apparently gonna be around the $200 mark per tyre according to my local tyre store. If anyone hears anything good or bad about these tyres let me know coz as soon as they r available I want a set.
