Honestly depends on what loaded on it. I had a 95 Disco on gas (shes gone now thanks to a crash). She was heavy in fuel consumption around town. It scared the living daylight out of me the consumption in town. On the open highway she was good though. Heavy body with a small V8 does no favours. Good engine though. I'd consider the LPG conversion, you cant go wrong. I avoided the petrol when I could. Still, it could be worse. I could of owned a 4.5 Toyota or Nissan

Its main use will be going down to the local shops and 4wding mainly he has found a 2nd owner with less than 100000kms for 9000 in top condition

In that case mate, It could be value for money. Get a gas conversion done, which will be 1000 or less after you get your money back from the government, and it will be worth the money. Gas conversion is a good option, and with those k's, worth the effort!

Dont bother with the conversion then. She'll be right. Good vehicle with 100,000 on her!

If its well tuned and maintained you can get as low as 13-15L/100km on the highway depending on how you drive it, heavy throttle up every hill etc and passing heaps of cars will send it pretty high. Around town it can be between 18-25L/100km again depending on how you drive. Matt

Sounds like a good buy. Tell your mate to spend $30 and buy a new fuel cap for it. They tend to leak after a few years and you don't tend to notice it. I replaced mine and noticed at least a 10% improvement in economy. Got my 30 back in about 2 weeks.

Fit it with 36 inch tyres and load it up with heaps of accessories and it will get............20 -25 l/100klms easy:) - very scary on long trips
Leave it standard, and expect 12-18l/100klms, average say 15l/100klms.
Compare to Nissan X Trail - it will get average of 8l/100klms even if you thrash it...but boring as bat shit and useless off road .....and on road 'cept when left in 4wd all the time
Compare to Yota, eg., 80 series, it will be better by 2-3l/100klms - not much.

Well all I can say is its anyones guess.
My first rangie with 6" spring lift and a tired 3.5L v8 running 37" creepys got about 400ks to a tank (70 litres used)
The two other 3.9s I have owned would be lucky to get me 350ks to a 120L Long range tank :( and both were failry stock.
Good luck. :D

p.s. get a diesel :D

Fuel economy, what that??
Just kidding, if you work at it it's all good but my 87 Rangie with a 3.5 EFI and 33' Silverstones fitted gets about 18-19L/100 kms with stock gearing, about 350 kms to a tank on a good day. Off-road, it's well into the 20's and close to 30L/100 kms
But I don't drive it daily and it's just a weekend toy. Good luck in your serach for a Disco.

A GOOD gas convert will set you back about $4000-$5000 so you can keep your fuel tank and your load space (using scuba tank style tanks built into the back)

I was getting about 8 k's to the litre whatever that works out in litres / 100km. About the same as the Prado that I've got as a work car. That's a mix of highway driving (about 75%) and around town (25%).
I've since sold the V8 and bought a Disco 2 with the TD5 - huge difference in fuel economy - now getting between 11 & 12 k's per litre, sometimes better on a long run.

Don't believe the figures always. My 98 V8 gets about 5.5kays per litre (ie about 18 litres per 100k) around town and about 6.5 kays per litre (ie about 15 litres per 100k) on freeway trips. Keep it serviced, try hiclone (or similar), clean air filter and straight through exhaust will help a bit. But if you want fuel economy a honda civic doesn't sound as good as a V8 pumping up a steep hill.

They drink fuel, faster than you can put it in. !!! If its good fuel ecconomy you want then you'll have to look elsewhere.
The shorter the trip the more you will use. They consume fuel like it is beer at Footy when there cold, so little trips to the store or pick kids up from school is better left to Cars.

Looking at the same thing here guys, how would it compare to my old 4.0L V6 Explorer (540-560k's out of an 80L tank on the open road) as the Mrs reckons that was a gas guzzler & thats the only thing thats worrying us.:truck:
Sorry for the hi-jack.
Thanks.:D

The Vac advance diaphram in the dissy is the culprit of the extreme fuel useage, easy suck and blow is the only way to test it, if it is gone K's per litre will always be above 20, if it's good (cheap to replace) and well tuned and serviced 13-15 on the highway with 16-18 as mums taxi, out bush expect higer consumption but it sounds a lot better than the diesel drone

A stock disco would be very similar to these figures. I have a 3.5, they're a bit better on the juice, still it's like a taxi to run around town. I get about 100km 17L on the highway. I have 31s full roof rack and snorkel.
