I am considering an ironman bullbar, they currntly have an aluminium non winch and steel winch bar available for an ML. Has anybody seen one yet or heard of one being fitted to an ML. I like the look, its similar to a TJM 15 but has the fog and turn signal pods similar to a ARB deluxe.

Got any pics, or a link mate?

They have a web site which is Ironman 4x4 Suspension (http://www.ironmansuspension.com) follow the links, they have some photos on a lux and a navara and it looks pretty good. they also advertise in 4WD Monthly/Action

Looks good - I take it on a GLX-R ML the factory bumper has to have the bottom section sawn off it in order to fit one of these, or another manufacturer's bar?

Yes, thats the case with all all of them apparently. Thats whats comes of having something a bit differant, rather than having something shaped like a box

I would like to see pics of one on a Triton - actually I'd like to see pics of all the bullbars fitted to people's ML's, some of the manufacturers websites ain't the best for good quality pics :D

I know Tritor has some good pics of an arb on his rig. There is also a reasonable photo in the TJM ad in the 4WD monthly mag with one on a white ML (which would give subiman a good idea of what one would look like on his unit) I am going to town tomorrow to sus out ARB and TJM, my preference would be the TJM but I would like to retain my fog lights, which you can do with ARB and Ironman.

Thanks magilla - I've seen the pics of Tritor's ARB, looks very nice.

The TJM one seem a little "upright" (?) in comparison to the frontal shape of the Triton - the two outer loops just don't seem to blend in very well, maybe it looks better in real life

I'd like a bar in a similar style to the Toyota Prado bars, but haven't seen one for the Triton like it...

Subi - do it once - do it right - chuck a ARB bar on the girl. Leave it black - will help break the white up a bit, & as well as offering decent protection - will look sharp....!!

Cheers.

 I just got quoted $1850 fitted for an ARB steel bar - am I out-of-touch with pricing, I would have expected to have to pay this for something in polished alloy!!?? They gave a similar price for an Ironman steely, but around $1400 for an Opposite Lock branded steel bar (not sure how this one looks, never seen one)

Cheers!

Got some pics of the ECB alloy bar today - apparently the bumper doesn't need to be cut at all, just the lower air dam meshed section removed - this appeals to me for that reason, although I'd like to see one in real life, or hear someone's opinion who already has one first ;) (I see the bottom corners of the stock bumper are possibly vulnerable to damage)

Around $1550 for hammertone or ripple finish and $1700 for polished alloy.

Cheers

Sounds promising subi, i think im going to hang off until the Melbourne fourby show in october, I am a bit like you in that I would like to see what I'm getting in the flesh before I depart with the dollars.

Mate, alloy is ok is its only gonna get 'bitumin-bunny' usage, but having used alloy bars years ago myself - I reckon the best use for alloy is being made into beer cars really...........

Plus, with the ARB bar - at least its winch capable too.......... :)

Cheers.

I can fully understand your points on steel and the ARB IMHO is the best looking bar so far for the ML :thumb:

You'll probably laugh at me highcountry but the best bar I've EVER had was a poly SMART bar on my 2000 Holden Rodeo previous to the Triton - had it on for 5-years and man that thing took hits of all sorts - from fences and roo's to an unfortunate Daewoo one trip to the the Big Smoke, and all it had to prove it was a couple of scratches. And I'd had a steel TJM on a 98 Rodeo and an alloy on a Jackaroo, but I thought the SMART bar was better than these

Of course these aren't suitable for winch use AFAIK, but I don't have a winch anyway - and they don't make them for the current Triton :p

Cheers!

I like the looks of the TJM one in a pic I saw somewhere. I remember the truck in the pic also had a bash plate under it. From memory it was gray.
Does anyone have that pic saved?

actually it isn't the pic that I was thinking of, but that's the same set-up.
Nice find..
now that I see it again though, it might be the lights, side rails and bash plate that had me thinking it was better looking than the ARB one.
I'm with ARB tomorrow getting my canopy fitted, so I'll ask for a quote while I'm there.
Betcha it's 2k once it's painted.

Right.
If I fit a TJM bar I will lose somewhere to fit the fog lights. Could i then use the factory fog light switch as the activating switch for some driving lights instead of using a toggle or rocker switch. Not that i have bothered with this in the past as Ive always hardwired them to high beam.

tritor

yes.. but technically wuld be illegal as your driving lights must activate with the highbeam toggle.. but you could use it to power a relay which is then gives power to a second relay turned on and off by your high beams (which is what i was gunna do till i figured i could fit my factory fogs into the bar)

useful fact.. tritons already have a spare wire to feed spot light relay from high beam circuit taped up next to passenger headlight

Thanks Tritor! I just picked up my Lightforce 240's this arvo and will look for this spare wire tomorrow when I install them :)

I got the ARB bar fitted without the fog lights from IPF saved $600
the bar fitted by my local dealer was $1500 he said that was his price
it was an extra $220 for colour coding. they just use inserts to blank off the holes where the fog lights go when I take delivery I will post some pics

Make sure you keep the original fog lights and you can fit them into the ARB
bar like tritor and I did.
Looks good and costs nothing.

Thanks for the tip BMS and for any one who is interested I wouldnt touch
an alloy bar with a barge pole its softer weaker doesnt like vibration ,cracking accurs and its painfull to keep it looking good. go the steel bars anyday !!

I think I saw a ECB Bar today, but I am basing that on the mitsubishi branded gussets as per subi pics, it still looked like it had the entire bumper underneath aswell.
Not a big fan if it was as it looks out of proportion , to wide for the height.

So have bitten the bullet and ordred an ARB after having a look and seeing the way the hoops are through the bumper section and welded to the back of it.
TJM as far as i could see were only welded on to the top and apparently the top hoops on the iron man (in the Stainless any way )are bolted on.
Now all I have to do know is find Tritors fog light tutorial.

yep the ECB is the one that doesn't require cutting of the original bumper - but that means it sticks out the front a lot more tha the others.

Congrats Magilla, I'm envious of your latest purchase!!
