Hey all
I am looking into getting a 5 Door 1.6EFI Manual Vitara.
I intend to use it mainly as a day to day driver with a bit of Weekend Exploration of the many 4x4 paths the Southern Highlands has to offer..
I Will be keeping it close to stock as I have taken out a small loan to get it but intend to do the following..
1. Extractors...,Do you think it is a wise move on the 1.6? if so what can I expect.
2. Snorkel.... Is there any real point on a Petrol Car?
3. I will be looking at changing the Tyres to something more durable then the Ones it will most likely have on it.. so I am after Tyre Advice..
4. My parents have a 3 door 91 Model Carby fed, is there any problems that occur with the 5 door EFI that doesnt occur on the 3 Door?
I have been a little off the Beaten track with a Mates 98 Model Rodeo Sport LT Dual Cab so I am aware of the depth it can go Wading at, but what would be a safe Depth for a Stock Vitara??
Any Info would be greatly appreciated..
I am hoping the bank will clear the Loan and I can pick the car up early next week..
Thanks in advance.

Magnat, Get some tyres for it first. I don't know about anyone else, but I fitted BFG allterrains a couple of years ago & have had an awsome run out of them. If you want a little more ground clearance, get some coil spacers for a cheap lift. I don't know much about the 4 cyl zooks, mine is a v6. A can of wd40 & a blind should take care of a bit of wading problems, depending on just how deep you want it to swim!!!
If you're going to put extractors on it, you've really got to replace the exhaust from front to rear, as you'll have the standard cat converter on it, thats one of the biggest restrictions in the exhaust system. Then you also need to get more air into the engine, i.e. free flowing air filter (K&N, Uni Filter etc).
Like I said earlier, just go the tyres first, & go from there.
Cheers, zn
Oh, one last thing, congrats on your choice of such a fine beast to go out playing in.

Thanks..I looked at the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Santa Fe but they are front wheel drive until you put them in 4WD and I wanted a rear wheel drive...
So the Vitara seemed the Logical choice..
I have gotten a Quote for an ARB Snorkel for it already and I haven't even Bought it yet lol

not much difference exept the longer wheel base so you DO need a lift.the carby engines (g16's)are bullitproof and easy to work on.
the g16b's (EFI) have a bit more power and a bit better on fuel and also bulletproof BUT!!!, if you find one with around 150.000km on it be very carefull as a lot of them crack the cilinderhead and is a throw away!(the head) and in some cases they also crack the block just above the startermotor{hard to see) if you find a good one 1st. thing you do is have the radiator cleaned out ,new hoses and thermostat! as they don't like overheating and will crack the head. after that....you can abuse the hell out of them as they are as tough as nails:thumb: one last thing when you find one , make sure you drive it with a cold engine as i've come across a few with knocky piston but not a major drama when it goes away as it warms up and wil go for another easy 5 years or so.(mine did and is still going strong) headers is always a good investment as it makes them breath better, and stick a 2'' pipe and hi flow muff on it too good luck .:Djacko, suzuki tech. oh jeah, about the snorkel, is always a good investment. even a petrol engine doesn't like to inhale water! and wil lock up just like a diesel.and on dirtroads it's good to have the intake as high as possible as it takes in a a lot less dust . the standard intake is in the guard and your filter will clog up in notime in these conditions
