I think I have a reasonable grasp on turbo tech, but I have a question for those who have done bigger-bore systems on modern TDs.

1: On a vehicle designed to deliver it's best at low engine speed (ML 3.2 is pulling from 1500rpm) wouldn't a degree of back pressure be very important? I can see you may get some benefit at high rpm due to pure lack of restriction, but not sure how a 3 inch mandrel bend system with free flowing muffler would be an improvement at the bottom/middle.

2: Wouldn't a dump pipe direct from the turbo make this situation worse, not better?

3: What about de-restricting the middle of the pipe work by just removing a muffler. Given that the turbo muffles most of the noise anyway?

crap.. hit edit instead of reply.. i cant be bothered writing that again

but.. had a good chat with the guy down at MCE motorsport.. and given the power level that the diesel puts out.. he wouldnt go any larger than full 2.5" mandrel
