Just wondering if anyone knows what the go is with lifting a vitara, its a 90 model with indapendant front. I want t lift it 3 maybe 4 inches.
Also Its got stock wheels on that has to go, maybe if anyone knows what other wheels fit or info on size limits would be good.

if your looking at 3-4 inches a calmini kit is probably the only one for suspension that high.
unless you go 2 inch susp and 2 in body. all you will need is extended springs and shockies for that lift.
you would easily fit 30x 9.5 with the lift you are looking at. With a little bit of guard bashing you can fit 31s
2 inch lift should be enough for 30"s
Just go with a 2" body lift and maybe 1 or 2 on the suspension.
... have a bit of a browse thru here ...;)

what was the point of that reply
Thats my hubby Grimbo, who knows what he thinks;)
Why not lift it? Look, I bought it to lift it up and have it for my car out in the scrub. Hubby has his 80 series, and I want my own 4wd too. I dont want anything too big, and honestly, I'd feel more comfortable in something smaller like a Zook. Originally I was looking for a Sierra, but the Vitara came up at an excellent price in great condition.
Now when we go 4wding, we usually go in a group and everyone has suspention lifts and bigger tyres, basically, we go places my Vitara at the moment wont go. I need to lift it to do what I want to do in it.
It was bought specifically for me to feel comfortable in to do some off roading. The 80 series is our family car. Why I need to explain to any one WHY i want to lift it is beyond me. This whole site is full of people asking questions about suspention, lifts etc, I thought here was the best place to start asking, seeing as I independantly want to do my Zook myself. I dont want my hubby making all the decisions and putting what he wants in without me knowing options. I guess next time I will just ask somewhere else.
Thanks Eddy for your positive reply and advice.
Why?
Because if we know what you are trying to achieve we can provide the best solution. How far do you want to take it? How much do you want to spend? What sort of terrain are you trying to drive? Is it auto or manual? Have you thought about what size tyre you want to run and gearing? Do you want it to be legal? Anybody can give a generic answer but if you want useful and specific replies then the more info you provide then the better the reply will be for your needs. Honestly as far as I'm concerned unless it's built for the mall then the idea is to build it as low as you can with as big a tyre as you can and lock it and gear it. Then you may find that you can go where they can't.

Well why not ask those questions instead of just "why?"
" I want to lift a vitara, can someone help me with some info?"
"Why?"
Why could mean any number of reasons. Why do i want to lift it, Why do I want to know. Obvious Eddy also read it as "why do you want to lift it".
Im not talking about lifting it anything beyond reason. All I wanted to know is what my option on lifting it are. Obviously I am not building it to be just an off road vehicle. I want it legal, registered and to be able to drive it, but it wont be my primary family car (because I have small kids and cannot fit baby seats in it). Its a manual, 5 speed, tyre sizing will obviously depend on what lift I get under it. I wouldnt try and fit 30s or 31s on it standard. I just want it to be a good general all rounder, not to nessiceraly to get where everyone else cant, but more so that I can confidently keep up with everyone else. At the moment the money thing isnt an issue. Obviously Im not going to spend 10s of 1000s of dollars on it, but I have some cash to throw into it if its what I want.
Basically all Im doing is looking at my options. Im asking what the go is with lifting it. What is the best thing others advise me to do. Im just taking everything on board.
If you look at the quote I took of yours I think it is pretty obvious what I was asking "why" too.
If you just want something mild and capable start with the Old Man Emu suspension. They make the best struts in the business plus it will be better riding and handling than stock. Look at some 235/75R15 tyres (they will even fit on a stock Vit) and consider a rear air locker. Crawler gears will slow you down and allow you to control the vehicle much better but aren't really essential unless the terrain you are driving is quite technical or steep. An auto would have been nice but the manuals are fine. Don't whatever you do use too much right foot in reverse or on hard lock unless you like to hear things go bang. There are solutions but they will cost a few dollars.

also what state are in as this can play a part in legalities of modifications
the answers you get are only as good as the info provided hence all the questions. If you don't have aclear goal to begin with then it cann get very expensive and tme consuming to fix down the track. So that is why people are questioning youur intial question

I had one a couple of years ago. Good little truck did everything I wanted.
I had the 1.6L fuel injected 95 model. I fitted king springs and monroe 4x4 shocks (buget), had 15x7 inch CSA alloys and 235/75/15 Goodyear Wranglers A/T. This was a great set up. I replaced the monroe shocks with OME shocks. With the vitaras (all models) the OME shocks are the longest stroke (front) than all other shocks for these models.
You dont have to spend big money, King springs, OME shocks, 235/75/15 tyres (your choice of tyre pattern) and you will have a good little rig that will get you most places and still be legal and insurable.
A rear locker will be good too, dont do the front. Why, because the early model Vits have a alloy front diff housing, and it flexes. With a front locker, the extra strain on the front diff housing will cause to crack, and nobody wants that.
With those Calmini kits, the springs are way to hard unless you have all the bar work and winch. The shocks are to hard aswell. And good luck getting it legal. You dont need a 4 inch lift with these things, the light weight of them get them most places.
Good luck

I have a 94 Vitara wagon and I am about to get new tyres to replace the H/T tyres that just aren't cutting it. I have been looking at muddies for the beast and Federal Tyres will be bringing their Muddies in 205/80 by the end of the year. Go to www.federalyres.com.au (http://www.federalyres.com.au) for more info. They are the tyres that Pat has on his Landy dual cab and I am hoping they are gonna be as good as he says they are and they look ballsy as.
