Got 315/75s on the cruiser. and set of spare split rims... plus split rims on my trailers.... I would like to use these as emergency spares..

Anyone know if a tire is available with rolling diameter of 35" to fit 16" split rims??

Thanks

i would think that they would all be too wide but a commercial, or truck tyre specialist would probly be the best bet. try michelin as well, they make the best offroad truck tyres.

i have sometimes thought that a set of 10" wide custom splitties would be awesome

yeah i spose didn't think of that, the weight of a 35" tyre plus all that steel.

simex centipede come in a 35x10.5x15 so im sure they would do a 16" rim as well, but even then its 3" wider than a std split rim tyre. would probly make it harder to break the bead which is a double edged sword but im not sure if its good to have a tyre which is that much wider than the rim, ie 10.5 inch tyre on 5.5" rim and i think that 10.5 inch will be probly pretty close to the best you will find.
good luck with the search mate, its something ive been pondering for a while, 35's on split rims, would be perfect if you can pull it off.

cheers

The technology & design in rims and tyres has come sooo far since split rims hit the scene! They are literally pre-historic, and the tyres we use these days are really up to a lot better than that!! There is NO advantage in running split rims over single piece rims these days, and heaps of disadvantages! You even need a bead breaker of some sort most of the time regardless, then they are so dangerous on re-inflating that they kill at least one person every year, usually more! Never heard of a single piece rim blowing up and killing the operator!

I'd be tossing ALL the split rims, even the rims on the trailer, and loosing about 35kg EACH rim and getting a modern single piece safety rim in the appropriate size for what tyre I wanted to run! They'd weight 10kg if they were lucky, and that's the HD off-road jobbies! No limit in the tyre size, you can pick what you want that'll go on the rim, and the whole rim/tyre combination will balance up smoothly, and it'll weigh LESS for the whole lot than the weight of the SPLIT RIMS ALONE!! That'll impprove the ride, as will changing to a modern tyre construction; the fuel economy will improve, a whole heap of things get better thru tossing the split rims! An the story about them still being the favoured thing in the bush is a crock!! The only places that still use them are places that just take what they are given without thought!! Every organisation that thinks before ordering vehicles gets one piece rims (or specialist rims)!! The savings in wear and tear, in puncture repair, in fuel economy improvements, in ride and handling, in personnel comfort, in OH&S considerations, even in Lost time/injury stats simply due to dropping split rims is astounding!!

Lose the split rims, get some rims and tyres that belong to at least the 20th century, and feel the improvement, not only on the road, but in your wallet too!

having just paid $270 per rim & $380 per tyre x4.... i was hoping to save $$$$ 'till i could afford matching spares & trailer tyres..
