I found a bunch of spotlights at the work dump, no i didnt go scrounging they were just right where i got out the truck! Anyway i wanna see if a few of them work considering mine got stolen last week and i now have crap lights.
Can you just like, earth it, then connect it to a battery?
There was 3 hella rectangular lights in the bunch of 8!

Be a good idea to take the battery out of the car and go sit somewhere comfortable but away from the car! And don't just bare the ends of the wires and hold them on the terminals in your bare fingers, it tends to stick (weld) the skin on the ends of your fingertips to the terminals!! Wire up a test lamp probe or summat similar, so that one end will aligator clip onto the earth and then use the pointy probe end to stick into the other terminal. The test lamp should light up, telling you that yes, the circuit SHOULD be good, and if the light doesn't light, then you hafta look for the blown globe or the crappy wiring! But you still have unwelded finger tips, even if you can't see for all the little yellowy-green spots dancing in front of your eyes, everywhere you try to focus!
Enjoy the testing process, give a step by step and blow by blow description and make a tape recording of the whole event, or better yet, a video, then post it up on Youtube!! Should be good entertainment! If you're too shy, just bring it up here, you can do the video'ing, and I'll set Jules onto the task! He'll lurve that!

Petes on the right track the bare wire heats up quick, disconnect neg battery clamp. expose ends of wire on lamps twist /connect or fold wire back on itself th stiften up and poke into (+) battery terminal. the use a screwdriver ect twist wire around driver shaft and hold handle and touch (-) batt.
Or drop thru ill test them with a metre for you. If the lenses and reflectors are ok then even if they aren't working it could just be a globe or a quick fix either way. sing out:thumb:

thanks for all the replies, as far as i can see 1 of them has a screwed bulb, but the other 2 i'm interested in using seem to be alright!
So i can just touch the wire on the battery, both terminals? do they need to be earthed?
And dont touch the battery!

if only one wire then earth the lamp and wire to (+) batt or if two wires run one on each batt terminal, and its not touching the batt that is the issue its touching the bare wire whilst its on the battery its the wire that gets hot

If the Hella's are Comet 181's they are excellent lights for their size.
How's your luck anyway? Finding 8 after getting yours nicked :thumb:

these are on ebay for $220 pair
eBay Australia: HELLA 155 DRIVING LAMP KIT .. BRAND NEW .. (item 270109917577, end time 12-Aug-07 12:14:15 AEST) (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HELLA-155-DRIVING-LAMP-KIT-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ270109917577QQihZ017QQcategoryZ102560 QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem)
so i reckon theyre ok, plus at the price you got them for can you argue, plus as I said even if they dont fire up i can get them alive for you.
I think they will look better than the hole in the bullbar

i think theyd look a bit silly in my bar as theyre smal and rectangle. Plus the mounts for them have been ripped off (probly why they were thrown out)
I was thikin of maybe chuckin em on those roof bars we talked about?
tryin to find some info on them on google and cant find a single thing!

sweet!! try this Hella Catalogue 2001 / 2002 (http://db.hella.com.au/cgi-bin/catalogue.pl?flcmd=preview&flmaint=772)
With those prices I gave u there is prob enough stuff to wire up headies, may aswell wire up the bar properly ready for later and to go to the roof.. you would need another relay and slit loom tubing pack 10metres (extra $12) youd have a heap of the tubing left too!
slowlux

thanks for the link!
Would i be able to get just the roof wired up and ready? Yet still be bale to wire up the bar and the headlights later on? or is that too much mucking around with re'wiring and stuff?

yeh easy to do the roof first, i can wire them up to your current circuit and alter when do the bar and lights later on simple enough.. But in the price i gave u that was for a 30m roll of 6mm which will do all of it. they dont supply 6mm in smaller rolls but you can go and get 6mm buy the length retail but you will pay what the 30m roll would cost any way, but youd only need 1 pack of spil loom tube, you wouldn't need the 130/90's for now and only 1 relay (if u need spotty globes theyre only about $6 a pair for either 55w or 100w
Im easy mate i can help which ever way you want to go for now!!

yeh that be good if we could do the roof, as i have a few things coming up in the next couple of weeks that require my moneys...spending $300 on my hair (dreadlocks) for starters....
Prettysure the relay i had from my old lights is still in there, could that be used?
I'll have to asses the $$$ situation over the next few days to see if i can afford the racks, and we'll go from there!
Cheers man!

just go feral for a while, the dreadlocks will come eventually. you will smell a bit honky & no one would want to recover you.
the upside is you save $300!!:D:D:D
its been goin feral for a year, ive got big knots and hteres a few little dreadies already forming!
Yuk though, im sik of my hair as it is! But yes, i would save the 300...
I'd be extremely pissed off when i did get them that i'd hate it and have wasted that money!
Oh well atleast i'll know, girlfriends all think it'd be quite hot on me...
I've got a set of Cibie Oscars in the shed, 100W globes, spot/flood combo pack....... Make me an offer (PM)!!!!!
