Directly From OziExplorer

Running OziExplorer with Windows Vista
http://www.oziexplorer3.com/images/vista_logo.gif Windows Vista has introduced changes to how Windows operates which can cause issues with OziExplorer. The issues below only apply if running the Windows Vista operating system
Vista issues for all OziExplorer3D versions
IMPORTANT You need to download and install version 1.11 of OziExplorer3D. This eliminates a problem where OziExplorer3D freezes when starting up.
If version 1.11 of OziExplorer3D still freezes you may need to install a Vista compatible set of drivers for your graphics card provided by the manufacturer of the graphics card, these are usually provided on the manufacturers web site.
Please note that the manufacturer may not be providing Vista compatible drivers for older graphics cards.
Also see the Vista Data Execution Protection (DEP) issue below.
Vista issues for all OziExplorer versions
Installing OziExplorer
When installing OziExplorer a dialog will appear asking for for permission to install, this is normal for Vista. If you are logged in as Administrator you just need to give permission, if you are not logged in you need to enter an Administrator ID and password before proceeding.
After doing this proceed with the install.
After installing you may receive a warning indicating "This program may not have installed correctly" and you will be presented with 2 options "Reinstall with compatibility settings" and "This program installed correctly". Just choose the "This program installed correctly" option.
Map and Data Folders
If you install OziExplorer into the "Program Files" folder tree then you should not store your maps in the Map folder attached to the OziExplorer folder as Vista does not allow programs to write files to any folder in "Program Files". When software write files to these folders they are redirected to a "Virtualstore" folder in the users own folder area which can cause confusion as you may end up with 2 copies of the file which are different. The same applies to the Data folder.
The Map and Data folders could be put in

the "User" folder - example c:\<user>\OziExplorer\Maps (<user> means your user name), this folder can only be seen by this user.
the "Public" folder - example c:\Public\OziExplorer\Maps , this folder can be seen by all users.
anywhere else you like - example c:\OziExplorer\Maps , this folder can be seen by all users. Note - if you are using a managed PC in a corporation or government area you may not have permission to write to any folders other than those in your user area. If OziExplorer or OziExplorer3D does not run at all in Vista (Data Execution Protection - DEP Issue)
It seems that when Windows Vista - Data Execution Protection (DEP) is turned on for all programs it is causing OziExplorer (or OziExplorer3D) to crash on start-up. This shouldn't be a problem for 32 bit installs unless DEP is turned on specifically but 64 bit installs have it on automatically.

Follow the instructions below to fix this issue.
Open the Windows Control Panel
Select "System and Maintenance", then "System".
On the left side, there are a list of tasks, select "Advanced system settings".
On the Advanced Tab on the dialog (you'll probably have a security warning here), click on "Settings" button in the Performance section.
On the "Data Execution Protection" tab, your computer has "Turn on DEP for all programs except ones I list". You can either:
Switch that setting to " ... essential programs and services ... ". This has the advantage of fixing problems you may be having with some other applications.
Or you can add OziExplorer (and OziExplorer3D if also installed) to the exclusion list (browse to the directory where you installed, then select the executable).
Close the dialog, you may be asked to reboot your PC. Vista issues for OziExplorer versions 3.95.4n or older
Issue
If you install OziExplorer into a subfolder belonging to the "Program Files" folder then it will not accept the registration unlock codes.
Workarounds
Install OziExplorer to the folder C:\OziExplorer
or
Run OziExplorer as Administrator. To do this right click on the shortcut and select the "Run as administrator" option from the menu.
Issue
Windows Vista regards the "Program Files" folder tree as a protected area and will not let programs write files into these folders. Therefore if you install OziExplorer into a subfolder belonging to the "Program Files" folder then it will write all new files into the "VirtualStore" folder which is part of the current user folder tree.
Workarounds
Install OziExplorer to the folder C:\OziExplorer
or
Run OziExplorer as Administrator. To do this right click on the shortcut and select the "Run as administrator" option from the menu. OziExplorer needs to be run as Administrator every time so it is better to add it to the properties of the OziExplorer shortcut. Open the properties of the shortcut by right clicking on the shortcut and selecting Properties from the menu. Select the Compatibility tab and tick the "Run this program as administrator" checkbox, if you cannot tick the checkbox you must press the Button "Show settings for all users" (below) and tick the checkbox on that screen.
Issue
Runtime Error 216 at 000032E0 when closing OziExplorer.
Workaround
This is a non critical error and can be ignored, just click OK to continue. The error occurs in OziExplorer within the compiler library code which was not written by us, this makes it more difficult to find the cause but we are attempting to fix the issue.

If you download the latest version and install over the top it will transfer your licence from any previous version of OziExplorer 3.9x to the new version.

Then the above information will make sure that everything works well.
