I just purchased a Nov 2001 GU ST Patrol. If you want the 3.0TD then make sure you get a Series 3. These were released Oct 2001 and have an improved engine. Check out 4wd monthly issue 106. There was a write up on GU Patrols. I would go for a 4.2TD model if you can find one and afford it. The 4.2TD is an excellent engine, but because of that people hang onto them.
Go for the ST model, as the DX lacks the standard luxuries poeple inspect these days.
Happy hunting.
BTW, have a look at Red Book AU : Your site for New and Used vehicle prices (http://www.redbook.com.au) for prices.

My boss had a 99 or 2000 model 3.0 and the engine expired just after 500,000. Most of those kays were towing a tandem trailer fully loaded though.
He's got the 06 model now, still a 3.0 dunno why he just didnt get a 4.2 since its a towing rig most of the time.

I hate to be a stick in the mud but I own a 2000 dx that now is going to cost me a whole lot of dollars (blown motor) maybe look at anything from 2003 upwards.

I like the 3l too. What is the history of the 2003 engine onwards? Has it changed much since 2003? Is it more reliable?

Where there any updates (interior etc) since 2003?

i have a 2003 3 litre patrol love it, ive heard all the storeis how they blow up and i suggest you put a boost gauge on it to keep an i on the pressure they have a problem with the maf sensor stuffing up and over boosting wich is not good for any motor my father has 2000 model 200000 km had that problem mine is 2003 model 80000km had that same problem and the sensor is only $275 so its cheap insurance dont get me wrong love the car and will drive it for eva so just keep an i on that and regular services and should not have any dramas cheers
