First off, I'm not tring to start any arguments with any other state :thumb:

Just going off the channel 9 show, Who do you think Is "The King"?

Myself, Locker - for the reason being that I'm only 21 & I have followed the Bronco's and the Maroons for 5-6 Years now, I have grown up watching Wally & Locker I have seen Locker more...My opinion may have been different if I grew up in the 80's..

Cheers,
Luke.

As someone a little older, who lived in Qld duing the "Wally years", he was the greatest team motivator the game had seen....

When Lockyer wins as many man of the match awards in state of origin as the king then he will be as good.

Just S.O.O?

What about all the achievments he has made with the Broncos...? And Australia..

Did anybody happen to tape the program and want to send me a copy, I had the tape in the machine but got side tracked and forgot all about it until 5 minutes from the end.

I think for the era they play in they are/ were both top players

Lewis, There is only one king:thumb: :thumb:

I've followed the Broncos since they kicked of in 88 and will continue to follow them.

I will say, Lockyer is the best player of the game now. But there is no way you can conpare the two when the sport has changed so much.

I have followed both players threw there careers & I must say that Wally is by far the only KING. Nothing against Lockyer but as for a lot of the players in the current NRL I don't think they would be tough enough to survive & have as long a career as Wally under the same game conditions.
Wally would be great under todays game conditions but it would be harder to say the same for a lot of the current crop.
my opinion anyway.

IMO, i'm 21 also and i still remember watchin' wally back in the day and watchin' clips from all the old S.o.O and he is by far the king.

wally was a guy who stood up and motivated the team by example when they weren't doing so well, lockyer is a great player but mainly on the backs of the forwards when they are doing their job and going forward. wally is the only king.

Wally is still the king. The way he could take a game and turn it his way either by lifting himself or others was just incredible. And if the players didn't have anything left he would bring the crowd in to lift them. But to compare him against Lockyer is useless. Wally played in a time with 4 interchanges so the forwards were tired leaving plenty of room.

But to say that current players couldn't handle the older game is fanciful. The current players are far fitter and stronger than any players of the past. And they play so many games and train so much now. Lockyer has played something like 30 games a season for the last few years against bigger, fitter, stronger, well rested forwards that target him at every chance. The man is a rock. He played on when his knee was damaged so badly. He is the modern games toughest player.

BUT Wally is the one and only King.
