Anybody ever driven both? Is there any difference in performance (on road and off)? Horsepower and torque are very similar. Does the turbo on the sd33t make the difference?

I have an MQ with SD33T engine and also sometimes drive a GU with a TD42 and have driven a GU with the turbo and intercooled TD42Ti engine all in ute configuration...
I have found the best one for torque down low is the plain TD42, it will outperform the TD42Ti and SD33T when you are driving up an incline and below 2000rpm it will continue lugging away where the other two die...Once you get above the 2000rpm mark the SD33T appears to have similar power and the TD42Ti has heaps more power.
On the highway both the SD33T and TD42 are similar with the TD42Ti miles ahead with pickup.

An aftermarket turbo will make a big difference below 2000 rpm though, wont it?

I cant see why the torque would be different b4 boost on a turbo TD42 to a non turbo TD42?
Im not disagreeing with ..RC.. he has had the chance to try plenty of varietes. I havent.

I think you will find, at least in the GU's that the diff ratios are different between the turbo and non turbo td42 models
