Hello everyone this is my first post other than my introduction, i have just bought a 77 range rover and i am wondering what are the general specifications on the engines (3.5l V8), eg HP,torque etc etc. And one more thing i would like to know is where can i get a rebuild kit for the old girl cause i think the motor needs it.
thanks in advance,
Busta-P

The std 3.5 V8 is a slug but it will go forever with regular service and near on impossible to kill even when they're well worn. Cams wear out at 200K or so and the heads will need to be done or a new gasket at the very least.
Regards to acceleration, the earier models had a better high range so they're nowhere near as bad as the later 4 speed manuals with taller high range. Add some 33's and it's quicker to get out and walk at times
Try some of the UK sites such as paddocks for engine parts, cheaper than buying here if you don't mind waiting a week or two, but do your homework first as it maybe just as cheap to buy locally.
Good luck with it

tpj77 - i'm hopin to counteract all the deficiencies of the motor by slappin on a supercharger, but i'll hafta see if the carbies can handle it, i reckon a bit of forced induction will give her a good kick in the butt LOL

Hi mate, go over to AULRO and have a look in the markets section, you can buy a CD called the RAVE CD its a cd with detailed everything, contains diagrams, step by step instructions on rebuilding etc etc. matt

replacing the stock stromberg carbs with su`s will help a lot as well.
su carbs were used on the stage one and 110 v8 landrovers as well as the rover sd1 road car so the parts are easy to get and it all bolts on to the standard manifold

thanks for the input fellas but i managed to get a hold of another rangie with a 253 and a holly 600 in it so i think a holden conversion is the go at the moment. I think the 253 should provide all the poke i need at the moment as i am an apprentice 4x4'er LOL, by the way does anyone in Toowoomba have an engine crane i can borrow or rent off them?
cheers
