Hi just fitted a snorkel to my tb42 powered mav & i want to remove the factory fitted air intake to make room for dual battery system .Problem being differance of diameter of air cleaner box & air intake pipe at the snorkel end.Wondering if anyone out there has come up with a simple solution to this problem cheers.

is it a 3 inch outlet from the snorkel?
If it is go to a wrecker and grab the top off of a VP/VN air box it has a removeable 3 inch outlet ( 4 allen key bolts from memory) and mount that on the side of your air box and plumb the snorkel to it and see if that works!
Good luck,
Steve.

Thanks for the advice Steve , unfortunately not a 3 inch outlet from snorkel . However have now solved problem by taking air cleaner box to a muffler shop & getting them to fabricate matching size inlet to the box Only cost $50 . Then using some superflex hose from pirtex plumbed the setup together . Next fitted a piranah "diesel GQ" battery tray which fits the N70 size battery instead of the N50 which is the usual for petrol GQ . Has all worked out well & can post pictures if anyone is interested in doing a similar thing.
Yes please to pics.
Especially with regard to the diesel dual battery tray (cant use the one specified for petrols due to gas convertor)

The piranah tray cost me $112. Worth it I reckon as it bolts straight in no mucking around using all existing bolt holes except for 1.

Neat job too!
Thanks for the heads-up on the battery tray.........now writes that down on the to-do list!.........and one final Q for ya, where did you get the ducting from? and is it available in 3 inch?
Ta for ya help,
Steve.
I remember reading that the particular type of ducting is available online from http://www.purplepig.com.au/ (http://www.purplepig.com.au/) Or as mavmad said, i think he said pirtek..

You can buy the ducting from Pirtex Steve & its a product called "Superflex" there are a few different types of the superflex but if you tell them what you want it for they should supply the right stuff & it is available in 75mm . Let me know if you have any dramas .

So you had a round outlet welded onto the square mouth of the air filter box to match the round pipe?
Also does your TB42 run an ignition coil, I've been looking at adding the ARB Diesel battery tray around the washer bottle for a while and it appears to clash with the coil as well... would need to be turned 90 degrees somehow.
I might just use the standard hose off the air-filter and just replace the pre-filter and forward to the snorkel similar to yours.. not sure what that valve thingo does in the pipe to the air filter either?
Now all I need to do is get all my pipes off... damn silicone to make the snorkel water tight!

I cut up my existing plumbing and siliconed them together as an adapter from square to round then ran some exhaust and flexy hose. No pics sorry, that setup is long gone but it worked well

Yeah I already have a battery tray same as that one, the usual Petrol engine 2nd battery tray...
I want the Diesel tray to fit a larger 80Ah deep cycle and have plans of fitting my Ox Compressor to the old tray there.
Where your coil is now is where my smart solenoid is for my dual batteries but it should be easy just to rotate the coil around to fit the diesel tray...
just back to getting the old silicone off the hoses now!

Well I finally got my entire intake apart and de-siliconed the lot... I think from what I can see I'm going to go about it the same way you did MavMad
The less joins in pipe the better, but I'm also considering making it an alloy pipe with silicone flex joiners... only problem I can see with that is the tight section near the front guard where your pipe appears to sit up over the fuel tank purge canister thingo and the top radiator hose... not a lot of room!
I don't know if it's just my setup - on the inner guard where it joins the snorkel I had a metal plate with a snout that bolts to the guard and thru to a rubber joiner to clamp to the snorkel inside the guard, this metal plate was then siliconed to the former plastic flange on the guard... unsure if the plate is part of the safari snorkel install?... but I'm thinking of getting a matching metal pipe welded on the back of the flange as a solid joiner through the guard.

Just a thought madmav you don't seem to have a precleaner, I take my snorkel head off on the dirt and put on a donaldson precleaner, it is an exact fit over the top of my 3" airflow snorkel pipe, and put the snorkel head back for the black top as its airflow is a bit restrictive they say over 80K's per hr.

Thanks Brucey , Im currently trying out a finer filter cover designed for the snorkel fits just like a beanie & costs only $16 , see how she goes !

Guys can any one give me an idea of how much the superflex is? and how long length was required?
