View Full Version : unichip
g'day all, I have just had a unichip fitted to my 100 series 4.5lt auto wagon and can tell you iam very happy with the results.after considering upgrading to a turbo diesel i was to say the least a little shocked at the price around $70000 & looking at $32000 change over.So i started considering other options such as turbos/superchargers all around $6500-$15000.For $1400 for a unichip fitted with dual timing maps to suit both grades of unleaded & dyno tuned I've gained a honest 14% increase in power and torque.and a increased fuel economy from around 18-22lt/100km to14lt/100km on highway.

Good stuff!! I got around the same increase, actually just a little more by fitting WOLF aftermarket managament to my V6 4Runner. I got around a 20% increase, but also went to extractors to a more restrictive std. exhuast manfifold at the in between dynos, so the power increase would have been more.
Pitty due to misatkes in the original tune my motor is just about dead!! :-[

Thanks for that !!! I've been contemplating getting one for my truck. So far I've only heard good things but it really does depend on the guy doing the tune. I've gotta find a reputable unchiper dealer here in melbourne though.
As for the dual map thing, I was completely unaware of this and would take the worry out of using it in remote areas where the fuels can be questionable. How is it switched ??

try getting on to www.safari4x4.com.au they list a number of unichip recommended dealers, they might be able to help you .I definitly recommend getting it done by some one who has a dyno as they can get a lot better result. Its money well spent and could quiet easly pay for its self over a period of time. hope you do all right

Made my ears prick up!!! Those economy figures are pretty fly my man, are these your real world figures or estimates? If they're on the money I neeeed this chip upgrade! :P
The last time I looked I was getting 4.5km/l (22.2lt/100) drivng like Miss Daisy!

Yes my friend these are real world figures, worked out on a full tank (sub) running it dry.since having it done 6 months ago we have done a trip to fraser towing a camp trailer and are still very impressed with both fuel/econ and power, keep in mind these figures are worked out from sensible driving/overtaking around 100/110km/h regards very happy ;D ;D

My mate has a Unichip fitted and is very happy with it, however I have not been convinced that I should get one.
After he had it fitted we had a few drag races to "test" his performance improvement (which the dyno showed conclusively) and I consistently was able to beat him rolling or standing start. We have the same GXL 100s, BFG A/Ts, etc. He blamed having the window down.
Those economy figures are great, glad to hear you are getting such good gains.

The theory was to run the old 4.5 into the ground and then replace her with a spankin GenIII, however at 370,000km she still doesn't even look like throwing in the towel :-\ No noise, no smoke ??? How long are these things supposed to last?
I'm guessing 6" of lift and 35x12.5's may be contributing to the big petrol bill! ;D
reckon you may be right about the tyres

Do you only have the unichip??
Or do you have snorkle, extractors, filters and so on?
I'm looking at getting a unichip soon and was interested if your figures was the chip alone.
