Just a quick question for all the Patrol admirers out there... my cousin is looking at buying a GQ 4.2 TD Auto, and wondering if there are any inherent issues with the Auto to be careful with? Anything to look out for? He was told that the auto has been known to fail easily, however I have never heard of this. I thought they were pretty tough vehicles.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Pretty well accepted as a reasonalby tough transmission! No inherent problems, and the only common issues are associated with lack of regular servicing! They weren't too common behind the TD42 motor, but are now very much in demand, and basically scarce as hen's teeth! If it's been looked after and serviced regularly, he should be grabbing it! If he doesn't, PM me please, before telling anyone else!

I 'spose you'd force yourself to take it off his hands just out of the kindness of your heart, wouldn't you Sudso, and not even charge him disposal costs! I thought I could do that too, but then decided that it was just a little TOO obvious!
Cheers!

I have an GQ turbo diesel with factory auto in it and it goes great.
It works so much better than the manual GU I used to have off road.
It has the valve body kit put in it from ' Wholesale Automatics ' - www.automatictransmission.com.au (http://www.automatictransmission.com.au)
The transmission once fitted with the new valve body can easily handle more than twice the power and torque with nice firm shift points even while towing trailers that are of considerable weight. The New Valve Body has also been tested behind large V8 engines including the 6.5 litre Chevy diesel V8, We simply couldn't fault the new Extreme Recalibrated Stage II Valve Body no matter what we did to it ( At time of print the valve body had been tested to 607Hp = 450Kw without failure to the transmission).
