Im putting this up for mate his GX prado 2003 model front seat belts are always wet but, he has wind defectors on both front doors and the seat belt straps are wet at the end of the belt ( when you pull the whole thing out) the only thing is the vehicle smells muskey all the time and he is worried that the spot welds in the roof where the roof rack runs have let goor seal and the belts may fail I putting this up to ask if any one has had the same probelm as the belts have a mould on them and what the outcome was and how to fix it note that he is very happy with the vehicle but just wishes it fix, Had a look at the "B" piller and can not seem to fault it Would be greatfull of and feed back ---Andy

i would pull the cowling off the pillar and check the whole seat belt mech. try putting talc powder around the area. if anything should leak it will show up. might work

Is the water definately coming in from up high? or is it possibly coming in under the carpet somewhere, perhaps through a seat mount, or the mounts for the seatbelt itself?
Is it wet constantly? even after long dry weather periods?
Definately something you need to fix, can't be good for the pretensioners (pretty sure it has them)

He didn't get the car not that long ago at auction, or thru a dealer did he? Probly even at a pretty reasonable maybe even LOW price?? It couldn't possible be one of the cars rescued from the floods could it?
If it has been flooded, there is every likelihood that the entire underlay is soaked, and probly the underside of the carpet too. Only way to fix that is to actually strip the carpet and underlay out of the car and dry it with good all round air flow! Even getting stuck in a deep crossing can let enough water in there to soak that underlay!

We had a 100 series at work that was similar. It was the roof rack mount area leaking. Easy fix as something was a bit out of place and it all went back easy.
