In a Patrol, lap/sash for left & right pax, lap belt for centre. I have seen centre lap/sash installations and suspect that if they're not mandatory yet, they will become so, sooner rather than later.

There were a bunch of GQ Std & DX Wagons that hit the streets with 2 outer lap/sash belts and 2 inner lap belts also! (4 seater across the bench) I'm not at all sure where the extra lap belt originated, either from Nissan, a Dealer, or added post sale by an owner; but once they were fitted and approved, with the carrying capacity changed to reflect the latest state of play, you can't make any 'permanent' changes without getting it re-approved. So check the compliance plate for its 'Seating Capacity' before you get too carried away. It should be '5' for a Std or DX model GQ/GU. I've only ever seen these extra belts on the single piece bench seats, with the most common state being the 3 belts on that row, and the split fold rear usually came with the extra row 2 seater right up the back. The GU's I don't think ever got the single piece bench seat in the 'middle row' position, even when there was no '3rd' row seats fitted!
As to how are they mounted, the 3 person belts had the lap sash on the outside, with the sash section mounted behind the trim panel in the back, running up to a mount at shoulder height on the 'C' pillar, then down to the base of the 'C' pillar. The lap buckle for those was secured in the bolt holes under the rear of the seat, where the split fold seat catch mounted. These bolts supported the buckle for the outer lap section of the lap/sash belts, AND they also supported the ends of the lap only belt in the middle seating position. The 4 person seats had an additional hole in the centre of the floor pan that took the end of each of the outer lap positions, making those two inner seating positions pretty small! The bolt holes are easily identified from underneath, as the captive nuts are in the middle of a larger load spreading plate that is secured to the floor pan!
Anyhow, make sure that your compliance plate says 'Seating Capacity: 5' before doing too much. I have heard of a few GQ/GU's having the back rows of seats removed permanently, getting re-approved with only a 2 or 3 person seating capacity and getting a mod plate fitted, and then getting the vehcile registered as a Camper or Mobile Caravan! Apparently if you can sleep and cook inside it warrants cheaper rego in some states!

My ST GQ has a lap sash on each side and just a lap belt in the middle.
The seats are the 50/50 split ones so the person in the middle wouldn't be too comfy lol.
