Rule of thumb... never winch from an alloy bar although I have seen it done. Just check how the bar mounts to your 80, most winch bars bolt directly into the chassis rails. Best idea would be to check the manufacturers specs.
Personally I wouldn't...

if you use it, i'm pretty sure you'd have to get a winch cradle that mounts to your chassis. your best bet is to go to somewhere and see what your possibilities are. my dads got an alloy tjm bar on his prado and they said he can get a winch cradle(although they arent too cheap) if he wants a winch.

Personally i have a steel winch bar but our ford couriers at work have alloy TJM bars that the winch bolts directly to. They run 9000lbs warn's!
If it was me i'd get ur local 4wd shop to have a look at it as there r that many different bars out there. If all the store wants to do is sell u a new bar without having a good look at it go somewhere else! (my biggest hate)

How are ya mate.
I have an 80 series with a 8000lb Warn winch on an alloy bar, And Ive never had a drama with it. Ive pulled other landcruisers and so on out of pretty big bog holes up over there hubs and sitting on there diffs, and up rocks etc. But when I fitted it to the bar I put a 4ml steel plate between the winch and the bar which covers pretty much the whole inside of the bar.

My alloy winch bar is plenty sturdy, though it's a chunk of 12 mm thick rolled section. Iv'e seen an alloy bar with a high mount winch attempt to pull a bogged D8 (through two snatch blocks), the bar was definitely not the weakest link.
