Hi,
Will a rear axle assembly with disc brakes bolt straight into a GQ with rear drum brakes?
I would like to swap out the diff housing and change to disc brakes.
Is this a straight swap?
Are there any control issues to worry about?
Regards

Check on patrol4x4.com or Outerlimits4x4.com. Someone did it on one of those sites. Think they used commo gear

The Nissan disc brake rear end WILL bolt straight in in place of the drum brake rear end, just make sure that you've got the right diff ratio if you aren't changing the diff itself too! A fairly easy task, you don't even need to take the diff/axle housing off the wheels, just jack it up enough to hold the body & chassis clear while you work, then when it's all undone, lift it high enough to wheel the diff out on its own wheels. Then wheel the disc brake unit in, lower the body down to working height again, and bolt it all up!
While you've got it all out tho' you've got a great opportunity to weld a little bracing onto the upper coil spring seats, re-inforcing around and over the top to stop them folding up when you next clear the top of a sand dune! Much easier if the diff isn't in the way!
I've got a drum rear Patrol waiting in the yard to get its disc rear swapped in right now, want to come and learn on mine before you do yours? This'll be about the fifth I think! And I don't know who keeps the demand high for drum brake rears, but they go very quickly every time, with or without a diff centre!
