G'day all i'm after some help regarding a oil leak in my H55F gearbox in my FJ73, the picture shows where it is leaking, up though where the shifter goes into the gearbox. Probably explains the hard shifting of my gearbox since the oil is escaping! Looking in my manual it did not show any oil seals or anything, only a ball loaded with a spring and a collar. How do I stop this leak? and is there some kind of seal somewhere and also the ball on the end of the shifter does that wear ? thinking if I can I will replace it to tighten up the shifter abit

cheers

Have you checked your gearbox oil level?

I'm having a wild guess - is your transfer case leaking into your gearbox, causing it to become overfull and leak?

Check your t/case and g/box levels, you may need to fit a "balance tube" kit - an aftermarket hose which allows the oil to transfer back to the ta/case, OR pull the lot apart and fix the seal between the 2.

dont they leak the other way??? there must be a seal up there I will look in my book 2morrow. the stick comes out easy... if its the same as my ute... you just push the lock tab around the stick down and turn it should pop out.

Nope. If they did, then the balance tube wouldn't work as you won't get the oil to run back uphill to the gearbox.
