dont know much about the IFS's or hilux's.......are both wheels jacked up or only the side that you are working on?......are the hubs locked in? if so unlock the hubs and try again

Rather than Hubs, wouldn't you have the Automatic Diff Disengaging front diff on one of the IFS 'Lux's? If so, if you've got the handbrake on and the trans case in 4WD, it will do just what you describe! Not something as simple as that is it?? I know that I usually do that at least once every time I get to test someone's diff for function!
Apart from that, those ADD diffs are renowned for being just a little fragile in the activation department, and they often get damaged when CV's or diffs break. Check out the diff and 4WD activation to make sure that it is working properly, it could be that the ADD is jammed on, you wouldn't have recognised it with a broken CV, but now it's fixed it'll be back to locked centre diff 4WD mode!
Good Luck!

well figured it out if any ones intrested where the cv shaft goes through the back of the hub there is a brass spacer that stops the cv shaft from binding the spacer was missing so at full droop the cv was binding on the back of the hub preventing it from moving so all i need is one of those bad news is none of the wreckers will rip apart the hub to get one id hate to know what its worth at toyota cheers all
